Got a call from an unfamiliar number that rang thrice before hanging up. Then, roughly a minute after, another number called with the same ringing pattern but the last digit was a zero. I’ve decided to block both of them now.

Got a call from someone claiming they're with O2, telling me I've been sent a new sim card. Totally felt like a scam to me.

They're checking for live phone numbers. The number used cannot be called back and what they are doing is constantly calling mobile numbers to see which one's are active. The purpose is unknown but scammers tend to do this with old databases that they have bought illegally.Don't ever pick up when this number calls, even though they only ring the number once and hang up. If you happen to just catch the call and answer they will know that they have an easy target for whatever it is that they will use the numbers for. No legitimate company / person buys VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) numbers in bulk (blocks) but scammers buy 100s of them all the numbers generate appear to be local numbers and aren't easy to trace. Be especially wary if you receive calls from numbers where only the last digit is different, such as 020 8316 2222, 020 8316 2225, 020 8316 2229, as they will be block bought numbers used by scammers. In the example I used the last digits 2222, 2225 and 2229 to show that should those numbers come up it clearly shows the scammers have bought a block of numbers ranging from 2222 to 2229, which is likely to be 2220 to 2229 as they buy blocks of 10s. The best thing to do if this number calls you, block the number and if your phone allows it, report it.

They’ve been calling non stop and I have no clue what they’re after. Really annoying.
