I got a call from a woman who was offering brand new clothes at a discount, but when I asked her for the name of her business or any evidence that she actually sells clothes, she just hung up on me.

I received a rather ominous voicemail stating that I should "prepare for the repercussions" and similar threats. It was from the same woman with the same name, sporting an American accent-definitely an HMRC scammer. I've since blocked the number!

Been getting loads of quiet calls lately, then out of the blue this dodgy HMRC robo message. Proper annoying, these Cupid pranks.

When I mentioned that I didn’t have a solicitor, she told me that to prevent bailiffs from coming to my home, I needed to cough up half the amount immediately, or else I’d face a hefty £24,000 fine and a potential five-year prison sentence. Furthermore, she warned that my National Insurance number would be blacklisted, which would affect my passport and bank accounts too. In a panic, I suggested a payment of £100 to buy myself some time, but the woman merely told me to expect a letter detailing the situation. As I pressed her for more information, she abruptly hung up, which raised my suspicions - especially considering I’m studying law. I quickly hopped online to search for the number and stumbled across this website, discovering similar accounts from others who had experienced the same scam. I promptly contacted HMRC and shared everything with them; they’ve now escalated the matter to their cybersecurity team. All of this unfolded rather rapidly - I received the call at 08:39 am from 02038960420, and by 09:01 am on 18/06/2020, I had notified HMRC. A massive thank you to those who shared their experiences about this number; it turns out I had actually overpaid my taxes too!

The Inland Revenue is a thing of the past! Just like HM Customs and Excise, where I was employed donkeys years ago! Now it's known as HM Revenue & Customs, and trust me when I say, they never ring you up!

Oh, it’s much the same old tale, really! Normally, I would check these numbers before calling back, but I found myself in a bit of a tizz this time. I was on the line for about ten minutes, during which they waffled on about all sorts: HMRC fraud, a supposed debt of four grand, frozen bank accounts and passports, and warned that the coppers would be at my door within the hour after our chat. I requested a formal letter as I’d received nothing, and just like that, they clammed up. It’s undeniably a scam; I’m quite certain my taxes are all in order. To be honest, I felt a bit dazed for a moment there, especially given that I had a few employers over the years and some dodgy calculations wouldn’t be out of the question. Oh, and I had a chuckle when the chap on the other end, with a thick Indian accent, introduced himself as Marc Foster! 😂

It’s the very same message I received, how I wish I could’ve replied and made them squander a bit of their time! 😂

Today around 10 in the morning I got a call from this number. When I picked up, it was just dead silence, then right as I hung up I heard a weird screech noise. They tried ringing me a few more times but I just didnt answer.

Oh dear, it seems I've been inundated with those pesky spam calls! They're utterly tiresome and seem to come from every possible direction.

If neither I nor my lawyer responded, she ominously indicated that I’d be facing some rather serious legal repercussions. It's all rather unsettling, isn't it?

Received a voicemail that seemed rather dodgy-classic signs of a scam, claiming to be from the revenue office in the States, much like what others have mentioned. Definitely a con!

I let the call ring without picking up, thinking it was probably dodgy, and it turns out I was right-it’s a scam!

I experienced something similar earlier today at precisely 13:33.

I caught the initial few words and it struck me straight away - it was just a con job - so I ended the call.

I didn’t get anyone on the line, just a machine that hung up after saying goodbye.
