I received a call at half past ten this morning from a number I didn't recognise, and they didn't bother leaving a message. Any idea who it might be?

Someone reached out to me, using my first name and inquired if I had been in employment over the last four years, hinting that I might be eligible for a tax rebate. I informed the chap-who claimed to represent an accountancy firm, something like Shore or Sure-that I wasn’t willing to verify the name he tossed around, as it seemed quite clearly like a cold call. I had my suspicions about it being a dodgy scheme, possibly aimed at taking a cut from any refund I might be owed.
