But on the rare occasion it goes through to the message, I listen a bit to see if it’s someone I’m interested in talking to, and if not, I just cancel the call straight away. I’m registered with the Telephone Preference Service, yet they still asked me to verify loads of details they already apparently had. Then, they tried fishing for more data. Afterwards, they put me through to some broker from [#]pinnaclelife[###]/ who barely tried to explain why my number shouldn’t be on any do-not-call list. Total nonsense.

Got a call from a bloke with a strange accent saying he needed to verify an address I supposedly gave him 5 years back for some life insurance. I asked him to clarify which policy he was talking about, and he listed three different companies but couldn't say which one exactly. That was enough for me, so I just ended the call. Someone pretending to be from the British Heart Foundation called me about a Covid 19 Funeral Plan. They actually knew about my past donations to BHF, which freaked me out. I'm pretty sure it wasn’t legit though... no clue how they managed to get hold of my details from the donation runs I’ve done.

Watch out for one called Amber from Australia, she rings up trying to flog funeral plans for her employer. The catch with these prepaid funeral deals is you hand over your cash, but it's the boss who really pockets it. Then when the company folds, you’re left with zilch.
