Got a call from someone with an Indian accent claiming to be from the tax office, saying I owe them £4600 because of some error and there's a legal case against me. My workmate grabbed the phone and told him her mate from BBC Watchdog was about to take her out for lunch, asking if he wanted to talk to him instead. The bloke didn’t even bother and just hung up! This isn’t the first time I’ve had this happen, it’s absolutely shocking! I’m planning to keep calling them back and mess with them until I’ve had my fun!

I got a recorded message claiming it was from HMRC, but the robotic voice gave it away straight away. They said I needed to hire a solicitor and that it was urgent. Luckily, I searched the number here first. It’s worrying to think there are folks out there who might not bother checking and could end up getting scammed. It’s just insane this stuff still happens!

Got a voicemail from number 02038794298 saying Amanda Taylor from HMRC had called. When I phoned back, some bloke with an Indian accent answered and said she was busy in a meeting. I told him about the message she left. Then he asked for my name and even knew my address. He started saying I owed £4,000 in tax and that there was a court case against me because I hadn't replied to calls or letters. I said I’d ring the HMRC tax office myself. I called up the official HMRC number beginning 0300, and they told me it was a scam and took down the details I gave them.

Absolute scam from "HMRC": They tried to convince me I was being charged with three offences - stuff like theft and fraud. They kept going on about how my case was closing today and I *had* to get a solicitor immediately. When I said my mate is a solicitor, they just threatened I'd be arrested anyway. Then I made up my husband was a copper, and they said he’d be sent to cuff me. Honestly, it was ridiculous. And then the woman just hung up on me! This kind of nonsense could totally freak someone out and make them panic into doing something daft.

There’s nothing dodgy with these scammers. Don’t waste time worrying about Brexit. Just keep ringing them loads, like mentioned a couple comments down. These scammers never stop. I always track them down. It’s really up to us to deal with them.

Someone phoned me claiming to be from HMRC, asking for my full name and address to confirm my identity. They then wanted the details of my solicitor and said HMRC were suing me over a tax investigation. I told them I hadn’t got any letter about this, but they insisted they’d tried calling me six months ago with no reply, so now they’re taking legal steps.
