Initially, when you answer the call, there’s a message claiming the conversation is being recorded, but in reality, it isn’t. You get stuck listening to some irritating hold music for ages before they finally divert you to voicemail. It’s pretty obvious that this is a dodgy operation, so do exercise caution if you decide to pick up; they might probe you for personal information, just like they did with me. - Jacob

Got a call from someone who sounded like a bloke with a thick foreign accent, calling himself ‘Tom Richards’. He was talking about booking a room for some exhibition, claimed we’d already made a reservation, then just cut the call off right away.

Got a call today about hotel rooms for an event I'm going to. Sounded a bit dodgy to me, might be one of those scams. Just a heads up!

I got a call on my mobile from a number I didn’t know, so I didn’t pick up. When I tried ringing back, it just played one of those automated messages saying the number isn’t recognised or something like that. Pretty strange.

Got a call from someone saying they were Tom Richard, that they were calling about Wales Comic Con. Haven't bothered to ring back though!

I manage a major event here in London and have been getting reports from our exhibitors about a bloke named Josie Roberto. He’s been ringing them up pretending to be working with us and pushing extra services. Just to be clear, he’s no partner of ours - it’s a total scam. Watch out and don’t fall for it!

Got a voicemail from someone saying they were connected to an exhibit I'm involved with. I didn’t ring back since I’ve got a proper list of contacts from the organisers, and the person’s name wasn’t on it. Since then, they’ve phoned me over five times. I've blocked the number now.

Honestly, I’m not sure what to make of it, but I just got a voicemail with nothing but someone breathing heavily for like a whole minute. Charming, right?

I've been trying to book hotels where I'm showing my work at exhibitions, but they just keep pushing back and won’t accept a refusal.

Got a call from a number saying they were official reps for an event I've got tickets for. They tried to offer me a discount on tickets and some sort of hotel package as a "compensation." Thought it was odd, so I quickly googled the number and it turned out to be a scam. Seems like they're just going through exhibitor lists on big event sites and cold calling random businesses.

I keep getting calls from them, like three times today, about some healthcare exhibition stuff. Each time I told them to stop calling, but they just don’t seem to listen at all! It’s getting a bit annoying.

Got a call earlier from someone claiming they were with the Brussels tattoo con, wanting to sort out accommodation for us. They said they were working for the event organisers but it all felt fishy. Turns out this lot run this scam at every tattoo event we’re part of, since our details are public on the site. Seriously, don’t trust them to book your stay!

Received a call earlier from someone wanting to speak to whoever organises healthcare exhibitions here - we don’t handle any of that stuff at all. I decided to check the number and it turns out they’re running a scam selling fake hotel rooms for that event. The caller got pretty irritated when I told him no one like that works here.

Received a call from this number about an event scheduled for May. After speaking with the actual company, it's clear they're still up to their old antics.

This outfit is deceitfully peddling hotel accommodations, pretending to be the legitimate coordinators of various events. They've been reaching out to our clients, claiming to be the "Authorized" providers of lodging services. I've made countless attempts to speak with someone in charge, but it seems there's no "manager" in sight, and their staff appear to be using fake names. Truly a bunch of rogues!

Got a dodgy call about an exhibition I’m involved with. Seems like they grabbed info from my adverts and then tracked down my number off my website. Pretty sneaky if you ask me.
