I had a rather similar encounter to what Ian described. Someone posing as official Microsoft support contacted me, asserting that my computer would be locked down and my personal data compromised if I didn't comply. Quite alarming, really!

So, my sister encountered a rather alarming situation on her laptop recently. A pop-up message appeared, warning her that she had been hacked and that her sensitive information-such as her banking credentials and passwords for Facebook and her email-had been compromised. Just as she was processing this ominous message, a voice claimed to be from Microsoft, insisting that she must call the number 0203 8688005 immediately; otherwise, her computer, web browser, and accounts would be locked down. It was quite the scare! 04/12/2016 19:00 Ken Brown

My social media feed keeps bombarding me with messages claiming that Microsoft has locked my device due to a virus that's wreaking havoc on their systems. It's all a load of nonsense, a blatant scam if you ask me!

It occurred to me today, once more through a Facebook news article. I made sure to capture a screenshot and promptly exited the page. I refrained from calling the number! I had seen a television programme lately covering the dangers of spam, which made me more vigilant. Just to be cautious, I ran a scan on my computer. Then, I decided to look up the number!

I’ve had a similar experience - it's probably best to turn off your computer entirely and then reboot it. That ought to wipe out the dodgy page you've encountered!

I just hopped on my laptop and noticed something alarming. I had to power down my router because it was requesting my credit card information, and it even mentioned logging into Facebook and accessing photos. To be honest, it gave me quite a fright! Am I in the clear now, or should I be worried?

I've noticed this site popping up on my laptop on a couple of occasions lately. I attempted to shut it down for an hour, and then rebooted it, but to no avail; it’s still there. I'm unable to access my emails, Facebook, or even Google. I'm rather stumped about what steps to take next.

Oh, indeed! I had a run-in with this dubious chap who attempted to pull a fast one on me. He claimed to be representing Microsoft based out of Las Vegas. I played along for a bit, leading him on, but eventually, he lost interest and decided to hang up. What a laugh!

I received a warning while browsing via a Facebook link, and my computer froze completely. The message claimed to be from Microsoft. Out of curiosity, I rang the number to gauge their reaction, but they abruptly hung up, uttering a simple 'goodbye'. Naturally, they attempted to ring me back from an 'unknown' number. In the end, I had to power off my computer and reboot it just to escape that webpage.

I’ve recently acquired a brand-new laptop, and while I was in the midst of setting it up, I decided to log onto Facebook. Out of the blue, a warning popped up claiming that my device was infected with a virus. It urged me to call 02038688005, threatening that I’d be unable to access my laptop if I didn’t, with this American-accented voice ominously stating that my credit card information could be at risk. The odd thing is, I haven't even had the chance to use it for anything yet! I've promptly shut down the machine and will give it another go before I consider my next steps. What a palaver!

I encountered a rather convincing webpage that resembled an official Microsoft site, claiming that my computer had been compromised by spyware. It insisted that I call the number provided. The page was stubbornly unresponsive, making it impossible to navigate away from it, which left me with no choice but to switch off my computer entirely and reboot. Quite the nuisance, I must say!
