I genuinely thought that the number wouldn’t cost me anything, so you can imagine my surprise when I discovered there was a fee attached! Quite a jolt, I must say.

I encountered a rather alarming pop-up on my computer, it was a rather robotic voice blaring out this number, completely taking over my screen and preventing me from escaping it. The message claimed to be from Apple’s support centre, and I’ve gone ahead to copy it here for clarity. **Apple Support Centre - Urgent Notice!!** Attention! Apple Warning Alert!! An alarming scan of your device has uncovered serious vulnerabilities. Only repairs sanctioned by Apple can sort this out. To initiate your repair request, please phone 020-3868-6460 or head down to your nearest Apple-certified shop. **Critical Warning Alert!! Apple Device Infected Error Code: 268D3 System ID: ix12002 Status: Immediate assistance required at 020-3868-6460**. We've detected harmful pornographic spyware/riskware. Do not disregard this critical alert! Should you attempt to close this page, your access will be curtailed to safeguard our network from further harm. Please call 020-3868-6460. I’m fully aware that this isn't genuine Apple correspondence as they usually contact me via email. Furthermore, there were clearly misspellings and flawed grammar, which Apple would never permit. I attempted to dismiss the pop-up but it wouldn’t budge, so I tried closing my browser, which also resisted, forcing me to perform a hard quit on Safari and reboot the system entirely. Now I’m stuck using Chrome. Each time I return to Safari, the pop-up reappears, lurking ominously until I foolishly click on it, and then it goes bonkers all over again. My next step is to uninstall Safari and get a fresh copy directly from Apple’s website. I believe 020 is in London, though it could possibly be Cardiff.

I came across this number on some dodgy link that claimed it was the contact for Apple support regarding issues with my computer. Thankfully, I didn’t call it! Later discovered it was linked to malware from a Facebook post. Be cautious, everyone!
