6 yearsI got one of those fake Windows alerts on my computer saying it was locked and if I closed the page or switched off the PC, it’d be locked for good. It told me to ring a certain number to get help from "Microsoft Support." When I called, the people sounded really official and even took remote control, showing fake virus files on the screen. Then they said Microsoft only fixes this kind of issue if you pay, starting at £165 for their silver support plan per year! Up until that moment, I genuinely thought it was a legit Microsoft service. I then rang Microsoft directly on 0344 800 2400 (number from their official site) and they quickly confirmed it was a scam.
