Got a call from some guy with a heavy Polish or Russian accent, said he was from some CID unit or something. He started going on about me being looked into for d#### t#### and money laundering, and that they were gonna freeze my National Insurance until further notice. When I started asking him questions, the bloke just hung up or the line dropped. Seemed like a total scam to me.

Your account can only be frozen by your bank, and they’ll get in touch with you directly if that’s gonna happen. What’s really dumb is those robo calls telling you to ring back the same number they called from. If it’s making you anxious, just give your bank a ring yourself to make sure all’s good.

Thankfully, we usually ignore calls from unknown numbers. The voicemail left was hard to make out, but it sounded threatening, suggesting we were involved in some crime and needed to ring that number before our bank accounts got frozen. It was a woman speaking. I reckon it’s all nonsense, so I didn’t take it too seriously and decided to look up the number to check if it was legit and alert others if it wasn’t. It’s reassuring to have my suspicions backed up. I imagine it could really frighten more vulnerable folks.

I got this strange automated call claiming to be from the CID, saying I needed to get in touch about a fraud case. I tried calling back at first but couldn’t get through. Eventually, I dialled the number directly and a bloke picked up saying “crime investigation department.” When I asked who I was speaking to, there was a pause and then a nervous, unsure voice mumbled something like “crime department, uh, tor, um, Morrisons.” Could have been any shop really - clearly a dodgy scam trying to trick me. Just a heads up to be careful out there.

Received a call earlier today. They left a voicemail containing a code and mentioned it was regarding 'potential fraudulent activity.' Decided to return the call to see what was going on. A chap picked up, quite professional, introduced himself as part of the Fraud and Cyber Team. He had a very composed manner. He requested that I verify my identity with my name and address. I agreed but inquired about their location in London. He mentioned Moorgate in the City. I said I was quite familiar with the area and asked him to name the buildings flanking them... and then suddenly, silence. He was gone.
