Got a call from someone pretending to be from O2, but I wasn’t having it. The guy spoke with an Indian/Pakistani accent. I told him he was actually being filmed live on telly while I was checking out scam calls, and that the police were tracking him right then. Big thanks to everyone who left comments - now I know this is a proper scam. Oddly, the calls started right after I left the UK and went to Europe for a few weeks. They were ringing me multiple times each day for about two weeks straight. I had to block a couple other similar numbers too. Once I got back to the UK, the calls just stopped. Makes me wonder if people who use their phones internationally are more likely to get targeted by these scammers.

Got a call from 020 3991 0550 earlier today, some bloke pretending to be from HMRC saying there’s an arrest warrant out for me over unpaid taxes. They told me to ring back that number to chat to a woman on the recorded message, or they’d supposedly come round to arrest me within an hour. Loads of folks like to go on about this, but seriously, this is NOT HMRC calling! They don’t ring you up; they always send stuff in a brown envelope through the post. Plus, if some bloke with a dodgy accent, sounding like he’s straight out of Jungle Book or that shopkeeper from The Simpsons, says he’s Officer James White, then chances are he’s not even from the UK!
