I received a rather troubling call from someone claiming to be from TechForing Ltd, asking for an upfront payment of £2000 to look into a potential blackmail situation involving me. They followed up with an email from a chap named Issac Scott, which I've included below: --- Subject: Response to Your Inquiry Dear [Your Name], I appreciate you reaching out to TechForing Ltd. It was genuinely a pleasure speaking with you, despite the distressing circumstances you find yourself in. We recognise how these unscrupulous blackmailers typically operate, often using fabricated identities and various deceptive tactics. Given that the individual in question possesses sensitive images or information about you, there’s a likelihood they could threaten to share these with your acquaintances. These criminals are notorious for exploiting such sensitive details in serious cyber offences online and even on the dark web, potentially also uploading your information to dubious sites. They thrive on the fear of their victims, making blackmail a lucrative venture. In terms of what we can offer, our team, composed of skilled cybersecurity experts, cybercrime detectives, and ethical hackers, is prepared to launch an in-depth investigation into your case. It’s crucial to understand that locating these culprits is no simple feat; often, even law enforcement is at a loss. The power they wield relies heavily on their anonymity. We aim to uncover who’s behind this ordeal and what sensitive data they possess. Throughout the investigation, we can: i) Pinpoint the blackmailer using digital evidence within a timeframe of 24 hours to a week through various communication channels (including location tracking, IP tracing-even circumventing VPNs, and device identification). ii) Coerce the perpetrator into wiping any sensitive content from every possible platform-whether that be personal devices, cloud storage, online chats, or both the web and dark web. iii) Conduct OSINT (Open Source Intelligence) research to identify any breaches involving your data and work towards a resolution (should any be found). iv) Collaborate with law enforcement in the blackmailer's jurisdiction if necessary. This is how we propose to put an end to your distressing predicament. **Cost Overview:** We appreciate your interest in our services, and as mentioned during our conversation, our foundational fee is as follows: A £2,000 upfront charge. **Payment Options:** If this fee poses a challenge financially, we’re open to discussing a payment plan. We understand the urgency of your situation; thus, we can offer a start for £1,000 upfront, with the remaining £1,000 due within 3 to 10 days of your first payment. Should this arrangement suit your needs, we can draft an agreement that reflects this. **Confidentiality Agreement:** Before we proceed with any financial commitments, I would like to prepare a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) for you, which will include your complete name and address. This document will outline all investigation parameters, fees, policies, and terms associated with your case. Once you sign and return the NDA, I'll provide a copy signed by the CEO along with the invoice, including bank details for the transfer. This practice ensures transparency on both sides, as maintaining your confidentiality is paramount to us. We pledge to keep all information strictly confidential and will not share it with external parties without your explicit consent. Once you've made your decision, kindly forward me your full name and address so we can set up the service agreement and invoice. Upon receiving the payment, we will commence the investigation immediately to catch the blackmailer. Timing is critical here, and we can also integrate with any legal representation on your behalf if the need arises. Please be aware that we are a registered private cybercrime investigation company based in London, focused on blackmail cases. We incur costs for investigations and need to assemble a specialized team equipped with advanced tools. Sadly, we can’t proceed without the initial fee at this stage. If you like, we can arrange for a call via Phone, Google Meet, Zoom, or WhatsApp to gain a clearer understanding of your circumstances. If possible, please suggest a convenient time for a chat between 7:00 am and 3:00 pm (London time). I have a nagging feeling that this could be a scam. The individual claimed to represent Techforing, but I’ve been unable to locate any information about the company online. It’s rather odd!
