Got a call with no sound at 10:48 on 9th December. It’s actually one of several I’ve had from 020 3885 numbers today, about four in total.

I saw a post online saying Rishi Sunak appeared on some TV show discussing AI trading. Intrigued, I filled in a quick form they had. Not long after, I got a call from a guy named Chris Jones, I think? He spoke with a strong Eastern European accent and sounded like he was abroad, the kind of lag you get with international calls. He claimed he was calling from London, which made me really suspicious. Honestly, it felt dodgy from the start. Something about it just didn’t sit right with me. Watch out, seems like a potential scam!

It's definitely a scam if you see a message saying 'Critical Threat Detected' on your screen. Just turn off your PC and do a proper virus scan instead. There's probably no real virus there, they're just trying to trick you. Avoid calling those numbers at all costs.

Got a call from 02039546335 earlier today which I didn't pick up. Later got an email with a dodgy link to 'evri-logistics'. My PC was acting weird so I checked this number here. Lots of people mentioning issues with Microsoft stuff. I ignored the weird warnings on my screen and just closed the browser tab. After a reboot, everything seems normal so far. Another device on my network flagged this as blocked too. Fingers crossed it’s nothing serious.

I got a message saying my laptop had been hacked and was now frozen. I was a bit shocked that Microsoft would be checking my computer like that, so I tried to shut it down. After leaving it off for a while, it still wouldn’t start up properly. I ran a scan using Windows security and it didn’t show any issues. I even tried calling the number they gave, but it just rang a few times then went dead. I was suspicious from the start, and after reading all these comments, I’m sure now it was a scam.

My computer has been taken hostage by a message claiming I've got a virus from this phone number. What steps should I take to resolve this?

02038358816 Just like others have said before, computer screen suddenly filled with big warning messages saying my IP had been hacked and that I shouldn’t turn off the PC for various reasons. It froze completely but luckily a restart sorted it. Definitely not from Microsoft - they’d never block your computer like that. Be cautious with this one!

My father-in-law got tricked by some scammer who told him to set up spyware on his computer. They were trying to get cash from him online, saying they needed to sort out a trojan. I finally got it all removed for him. The guy on the phone said his name was Robin Carter.

SCAM ALERT! Today a pop-up popped up on my laptop claiming to be from Microsoft saying my computer was locked due to security issues and gave a phone number to call. I didn’t trust it one bit, so I rang up my nephew who’s in IT, and he dropped by to fix everything. Watch out for these tricks!!!!!

Just like someone else said, I clicked a link in Microsoft Edge and suddenly my screen got stuck with loads of messages saying some spyware attack was stopped and that I needed to call a number to get help unfrozing the screen! I couldn’t close the window or anything, so I had to pull the plug at the socket. Now I’m running a virus scan to be safe. These scammers are the worst, I’ll be reporting it to Microsoft for sure.

My computer suddenly showed a message saying it was locked because a Trojan was found, and it told me to ring this number to get help from Microsoft experts to unlock it. I never actually got a call from them, though. I then looked up the number on Who Called Me.

I was browsing on Microsoft Edge and clicked on a link, then suddenly my screen got locked. It showed a message saying I needed to call a certain number to get a Microsoft engineer to unlock it. The person on the other end kept wanting my personal details. Pretty sure it was a scam.

Total scam alert. They pretend to be from Microsoft’s security team and claim your PC is infected with trojans, offering to ‘fix’ it if you let them in. Then they try to charge you anywhere from £250 up to £850 for some sort of ongoing antivirus thing. If you end the call, don’t be surprised when they ring you again. The number they’re using is 0203923 3300. Stay well away!

I recently discovered that this number is linked to a fraudster who managed to con my father-in-law out of his hard-earned money. He received another call on his computer, supposedly from Microsoft, claiming that his device had been compromised and urging him to ring this number. When he called, the chap on the other end, who spoke with an Indian accent, assured him he could resolve the issue for a fee of £198. Sadly, he persuaded my father-in-law to share his screen, pried out personal information, including his debit card details, and then used PayPal to pilfer his funds. This is the number that the scammer used to call him back from. Please be cautious of this number!

Be wary of this number; it's associated with a scam and isn't a legitimate Microsoft Support line. If you get a nudge from something that looks like Microsoft Defender, steer clear and don't ring them up!
