I suggested they send an email instead, but they mentioned their busy schedule didn’t permit that. I firmly reiterated that any request for information must be made in writing. After that, the conversation came to a rather abrupt close.

Initially, they asserted they were representing the UK Government, but when pressed for further details, it turned out they were just a private firm supposedly collaborating with the government. They were probing for details regarding imports and exports, which struck me as quite dubious. I'd highly recommend steering clear of sharing any of your company’s info with these individuals.
