Right, so I've had this chap call me three times yesterday and four times today, which prompted me to pick up the phone. Come 7pm, a bloke rings me up claiming I've snagged ten EuroMillions tickets for Friday-what luck! He then goes on about this promotion where I'd supposedly get 360 tickets over three months. Naturally, I asked how much it would set me back. Rather annoyingly, he sidestepped the question, saying he'd need my payment details first. I flatly refused. He asked me why I was being so hesitant, and I firmly replied, "Because I don’t engage with the lottery, and I certainly can’t afford it!" This chap had the cheek to insist that I was merely being 'security cautious,' and I repeated my 'no' three times! He even tried to convince me that I'd surely win something in those three months and promised I’d get my money back if I didn’t. Again, I said, “No.” Then he had the audacity to assert that everyone must have a bit of spare cash! That really set me off... I had to explain that there are 8.3 million adults in the UK living in poverty. There’s a good chance he’s going to be ringing someone who's in a tough spot. I went on to highlight how pushing this sort of promotion on vulnerable people not only is grossly unfair but could potentially jeopardise their ability to feed their families by luring them in with empty promises, which isn't right! Moreover, it’s downright detrimental to their mental health to be reminded of how dire their financial situations are! Over 1.5 million individuals are grappling with debt and mental health challenges! I told him, while I understand he’s just doing his job, he mustn't overstep and cause undue distress. These are serious matters, not to be trifled with. Everyone deserves a bit of dignity and respect-at the very least! - caller: ‭020 3808 0939‬
