I got a call from 020 3807 8406 claiming to be from Microsoft Windows Defender. Apparently they had taken control of my laptop and said I couldn’t use it. I called back and ended up speaking to someone with an Indian accent. I’m stuck now, not sure how to get my laptop back without leting them in and getting ripped off with huge fees! Any ideas on how to fix this safely?

I didn't pick up the phone yesterday because the number looked unfamiliar. Honestly, don’t bother calling again - I’m not going to ever pick up! Just saving us both some time here.

Got a call on my landline from 02038075540. Since I didn’t know the number, I just ignored it. They didn’t leave any voicemail either. Later, after looking it up, I found out it was probably just another scam call!

I reckon this was one of those dodgy scam calls. These days, I only pick up if I know the number’s saved on my phone as a mate or family. Every now and then, like today, I’ll have a look on this site out of curiosity - and so far, I’ve always guessed right, it’s been a scam.

Got a call today from a woman saying I could get 35% off. I’m already with British Gas for my appliances, and I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t suddenly offer a discount like that. She was quite convincing, but I just wasn’t buying it. I told her I wasn’t interested and to jog on. Don’t think I’m falling for that one!

Someone called saying it was about home appliance insurance, then handed me over to a manager. The manager asked for my bank info and card details, promising a discount for the following year. It all sounded really legit, but it felt like a trap, especially for older folks who might easily get tricked by this sort of thing.

Watch out for this HomeCare white goods scam! The bloke promised to call me back with the model and make of my washing machine. Sure, like that ever happened. When I rang him back and called him out, he just went and hung up on me! Total scam, be careful.

It's seriously risky, these crooks try to con you about your appliances. They use this main phone number but just switch up the last couple of digits.

On the 8th of May 2025, I got a call from a woman who sounded Asian. She already knew my name and started chatting about insurance for domestic appliances. I told her I wasn’t interested at all. Then she just ended the call. Pretty clear she figured I wasn’t someone to trick!

Got a call from someone called Amy offering a discount on appliance insurance because I haven’t claimed anything. I told her I don’t actually have any insurance since my appliances are still covered by the warranty. She seemed a bit annoyed and just dropped the call!

I just ignored the call. When I listened, it was clearly a scam saying to press 1 if yes or 2 to talk to someone. Don’t pick up or press any of those numbers, cause as soon as you do, they slap a big charge on your phone bill right away.

Totally over it now - I just let it ring through to voicemail and don’t bother picking up. I never leave any messages, so in the end I block the number and then they just ring from a new 0203 again. Bit of a joke really!

Got a call from someone claiming to be British Gas Home Care, saying I could get a discount on my renewal which isn’t due until September. They asked me for my card details even though they usually take payment through direct debit. Felt a bit off to me.

Got a call from someone claiming to be from the National Debt Agency offering help with my mortgage debt or whatever. Thing is, I don’t owe anything at all. I decided to mess with the caller for a good while, calling out their lies each time they called. Total scam, sounds like it was coming from a dodgy call centre for sure.

I got a call claiming to be from Homecare boiler insurance, and they somehow had my full name and address. They said I’d get a discount next year because I hadn’t had any call outs. But I got suspicious when they didn’t seem to know my boiler runs on gas. Then they asked for my debit card expiry date to a supervisor to apply the discount. I asked why, as I pay through direct debit, and they said it was for the first payment. I told them to send me something in writing and that I wasn’t comfortable giving card details on the phone. They just hung up on me!

SCAM alert. The lady was speaking really bad English and kept going on and on about some maintenance cover for three home appliances costing just £250 a year. I had no clue what she meant but it definitely felt like a scam to me. Seriously, how do people actually get duped by this rubbish?

He actually knew my name and started asking about how my appliances were working. When I asked him where he was calling from, he said it was Home Appliance or something like that. I told him we didn't have insurance with them, got suspicious, and just ended the call. The guy said his name was Adam.

Got a call from someone trying to chat about insuring my tech stuff, though I wouldn't really call them gadgets. I told them straight up it’s a scam. She denied it, then started fumbling with her spiel again. I pointed out that here in the UK it was a bank holiday, Easter Monday, so no legit company would be cold-calling me today. After that, she just hung up. Watch out for these!

Got a call asking about my insurance and “gadgets,” whatever that means. I told them we don’t call them gadgets here. I flat out said this was a scam.
