Got a call with one of those automated messages claiming to be from HMRC, saying I’m facing a lawsuit and to press 1 to talk to the officer handling my case. Total scam, HMRC don’t reach out like that. Ended up hanging up and blocking the number straight away.

I received a rather peculiar message on my landline. The recording only captured the last bit, which ominously mentioned "a complaint filed against you" and instructed me to press 1 to connect with a police officer. It's all rather dubious, so I'll be disregarding this call altogether and ensuring it’s blocked via my phone provider.

Got a call from someone saying HMRC was after me for some unpaid cash. I panicked and pressed 1 by mistake, then some Asian bloke already had my full name and address which freaked me out. I hung up when he wanted me to say my date of birth. I struggle with anxiety and depression, so it really upset me, but reading people's experiences here has helped calm me down a bit.

Got a call for my dad saying he owed almost £2k to HMRC. They told him he had to pay it all at once or in two lumps, or else he'd be arrested in 2 hours, taken to court, and face 3 years in jail. He knew it was a scam and grabbed all paperwork to show he didn’t owe anything, but for the past couple of hours he’s been really shaken up, nearly in tears, scared the police would actually turn up. He’s worried about leaving me, his 20 year old daughter, on my own. Reported it to the police straight away. Truly disgusting behaviour.

02038073241 rang saying they were from HMRC and threatened to take me to court, telling me to press 1. I just hung up. This happened today, June 30, around 5:30 pm.

My mum got a rather alarming call today at around 4:20pm, and it genuinely shocked her! Thankfully, she reached out to me, so I took a moment to look it up online. Turns out, this sort of thing is quite common, especially victimising those who are more prone to fear. What on earth is happening in our world? What could they possibly gain from this? And in this modern era, isn't it strange that those responsible aren’t being brought to justice?

Same here, I’ve contacted HMRC about this as they do look into these kinds of calls seriously.

SCAMMERS FROM HMRC! Honestly, these individuals deserve severe punishment! I'm talking about being dragged through the mud, strung up like a piñata, and totally done away with! Just so you know, I’ve kept my language quite civilised.

Got two calls from this number earlier today. I usually dodge calls from unknown numbers, but I looked it up straight away and found this site. Really glad I did. Being self-employed with my tax return deadline coming up, I could’ve easily been tricked - hope I wasn’t, but ya never can tell. Big thanks to everyone who's shared their experience!

Got a call supposedly from HMRC sayin there’s a lawsuit against me and to press 1 - I just ended the call. (At least it’s not the usual PPI scam or someone claiming I was in a recent car crash?!)

Got a ring from 02038073241 sayin HMRC was takin me to court over some tax issue, told me to press 1 so I did. A woman came on and started talking but then the call just dropped. Sounds like a scam to me, really hope nothing happens from me pressing 1 though?

Got a robocall from 02038073241 claiming HMRC was suing me. It freaked me out at first, but then I remembered they usually send letters by post. Really glad I looked up the number on this site before doing anything!

I recently received a call from this number, with someone on the line purporting to be from HMRC, stating that they were initiating legal proceedings against my late father. How utterly heartless these individuals are! It’s appalling to exploit someone’s passing in such a cruel manner!

I recently received the tail end of a voicemail that sounded quite alarming, claiming that HMRC was initiating legal action against me. It instructed me to press 1 to allegedly speak with a case officer. However, I chose not to return the call, as I've been advised that numbers starting with 0203 can often be dodgy or linked to scams! Better safe than sorry, I reckon!

Had a call this morning and got really worried when the person said they were from HMRC, but I checked the number online and I’m so relieved I didn’t press 1.

Today, I got a rather alarming call from this number. A person on the other end claimed that I had a debt of 900 quid with the tax authorities and that a warrant for my arrest was supposedly issued. They insisted that I should pay the amount straight away over the phone, threatening that if I didn't, they would freeze my bank account and I'd be hauled into court. To top it off, they warned that I could end up doing time for as long as six months. It was all quite distressing!

Just received the same nonsense as everyone else. A supposed HMRC lawsuit against me, urging to press 1 for the case handler. But then, it cuts off! What a ridiculous scam.

I received a call this morning that left me quite distressed. As a retiree, I feel it’s downright inappropriate for them to be harassing people like me. Surely, there ought to be some measures put in place to prevent this sort of thing from happening!
