My mother received a rather troubling call. It's clearly a scam, without a doubt.

I got a call from 02038073161 claiming to be HM Income Tax saying I had to ring them back or else there’d be consequences. I decided to check by calling the official tax office helpline, and they told me they never call people, always send letters. So, just ignore these calls, it's definitely a scam.

I was absolutely terrified when I received that call. Being rather unwell, the threats they made sent shivers down my spine. I nearly agreed to part with my money, as they claimed the police would be knocking at my door to arrest me and freeze all my assets. It felt like I was in a nightmare!

My elderly mum received a call like this as well, and it really unsettled her.

Is this yet another ruse that OFCOM will need to tackle? I'm left pondering what the end game of this deception could possibly be.

Answered my home phone earlier today and got that recorded message like the others here - something about HMRC taking legal action and to press 1 to chat with a Case Officer. Hung up straight away, no way am I getting involved. Definitely will report this to Ofcom. Glad to find this site, makes me feel less alone with these calls!

It's quite baffling that these HMRC scams are still running rampant while Ofcom seems to be doing little about it. One would think there would be more action taken against such fraudulent activities.

I received a rather alarming text on my mobile, claiming that there was a lawsuit awaiting my attention and instructing me to press 1. Don't pick up or engage with this number; it’s definitely a scam. If it's possible, make sure to block the call. It's puzzling how these sorts of calls continue without any repercussions. What has Ofcom been doing about this?

I’ve received a call from this number, and it’s clearly a dodgy operation pretending to represent HMRC. They’ll make alarming claims about you facing legal issues and pressure you into coughing up over £900 to avoid some sort of disastrous action. It’s reprehensible how they target the elderly and those who are less able to defend themselves.

I received a call from this number earlier, but they didn’t pick up when I answered. They left a voicemail, which I ended up listening to.
