Could hear a lot of noise like a call centre in the background, then the person just ended the call.

Received a call attempting to pressure me into renewing a warranty for a Hotpoint washing machine. When I pointed out that neither of my washer models were from Hotpoint, they abruptly ended the conversation. Quite strange, to say the least!

I received a call informing me that my washing machine’s warranty had lapsed, surprisingly claiming it would cost less to renew than it did the previous year! Instinctively, I recognised it for what it was-a scam-but decided to let the chap finish his spiel. When I mentioned that the landlord was liable for the warranty and that I had no intention of covering any fees myself, he quickly changed his tune, suggesting the machine must be under some form of coverage after all. It was quite evident it was a ruse, albeit delivered in a rather charming manner, which could easily trap someone, particularly those who actually have washing machine insurance-luckily, I don’t!
