13 yearsI had a run-in with some clowns claiming to be from Microsoft, saying my PC was downloading some dangerous stuff. I got worried it might be one of the kids doing something dodgy. When I checked, all the computers in the house were switched off. The bloke on the phone had a heavy accent and his English was pretty hard to follow - I reckon they try to confuse you that way. When I asked him to prove he was actually from Microsoft, he gave me a mobile number. Seemed fishy, probably a premium rate line! Then he asked for my husband and said he’d ring back later. I told him straight it sounded like a scam and to get lost. But he called again ten minutes later asking for my husband once more. The last comment nailed it - Microsoft or any bank wouldn’t call you like that out of the blue. It’s proper low, some people have no shame. Wish there was a proper way to go after these scoundrels, maybe some official body or even the police. It’s outright fraud, no doubt about it!Microsoft13 yearsThese scammers pretend they’re from Microsoft and will ask you to download some remote access software so they can mess with your PC. They might install malware, turn your machine into part of a botnet, or try to nab your bank info. I wasted a couple of hours pretending my computer kept crashing every time I tried to download their dodgy program! When that didn’t work, they went on to offer me a “Microsoft Certificate” that supposedly costs £125 for 5 years, £150 for 10, or £175 forever. Lucky for me, my card was declined! They really know how to reel you in and are pretty persistent. Just to be clear, Microsoft never just rings you out of nowhere.
