This afternoon I got a call from a woman with an Indian accent claiming to be from HMRC. She said I was caught up in a tax fraud and that my name was on a list for prosecution. She warned me that unless I paid nearly £1000 immediately, I'd face 14 days in prison. After that, apparently, I'd have to show up in court on the 15th and hire a solicitor. She also mentioned that my bank accounts would be frozen, all money locked down, and my passport would be flagged. It felt really fishy.
