10 years
I received a call from a man with an Eastern accent claiming to represent the Claims Compensation Bureau under the Financial Claims Authority (FCA). He mentioned that I was eligible for a PPI refund from Barclays bank. The twist? A courier was supposedly on their way to deliver £3,750 in cash to my doorstep. However, I would need to hand over a 10% commission of £375 to the courier in vouchers, conveniently to sidestep any tax issues. This raised numerous red flags for me. Firstly, I've never held an account with Barclays, and secondly, I can't fathom any legitimate business distributing refunds in cash. I informed him that I used to work in insurance and recognised this as a classic scam, then promptly ended the call.
