Today I received a rather alarming phone call from this number, claiming to represent the Inland Revenue. The individual on the line informed me that I supposedly owe £1767, but was rather evasive when I asked whether this was related to personal or business tax. With a noticeable Indian accent, he proceeded to threaten me with all sorts of dire consequences, including the possibility of someone being dispatched to collect the debt, my passport being placed on hold, and threats of court action. He claimed this supposed debt dated back seven years. However, I’ve never received any correspondence from the Inland Revenue regarding such a sum. He was exceedingly pushy, insisting I not interrupt or pose any questions. His tone was quite aggressive, and when I suggested I’d have my accountant return his call, he abruptly mentioned he would need to confer with his supervisor and promised to ring me back immediately. I'm still waiting for that call back!
