Phone number ☎️ 02037692587 👆 is reported as a persistent and distressing scam targeting mainly elderly and vulnerable individuals, involving automated calls falsely claiming to be from HMRC. Callers use aggressive tactics and threatening language, alleging outstanding tax debts and impending lawsuits, often urging victims to press a number to speak to a "caseworker." Many report foreign or unclear accents and suspicious caller behaviour, including requests for personal details or payments. Official HMRC communications are always written, never by unsolicited phone calls. Users strongly advise not to engage, press any buttons, or return calls. The scam has caused significant fear, prompting numerous reports to police and fraud authorities. There is a widespread call for action to block these calls and prosecute the perpetrators to protect the public from this harmful fraud.

For about a fortnight, an elderly woman I know kept getting these creepy recorded calls nearly daily. The voice claimed to be from HMRC and told her to press 1 if she wanted to speak to a caseworker. They even used her first name, which was kinda unsettling. The tone was pretty harsh, saying she was under investigation or something like that. Honestly, I'd steer clear of answering if this number rings you up.

I got four automated calls all warning me about court action unless I ring my Care Officer right away! Honestly, for someone like me who’s 70 and fairly sharp, it was pretty frightening. I can only imagine how distressing this must be for frail elderly folks stuck at home.

I’ve had a right scare with these calls! They're sending me into a tizzy over a potential lawsuit. It’s quite concerning, to say the least. If anyone has more info, I’d be keen to know!

I've encountered the same predicament as many others with this phone number. I received a call at 2:25 this afternoon-on a bank holiday, no less! My initial response was one of disbelief; however, it took me a good few minutes of cordial debate to realise what was truly happening. When I mentioned I might reach out to my local office, the caller ominously warned me of potential arrest unless I resolved the matter within half an hour. The use of that pre-recorded message is rather insidious, I must say. It creates an air of authority that can easily send someone into a frenzy before the human operator steps in. It concerns me that those who are more vulnerable could easily fall prey to this tactic. I've gone ahead and reported the incident to our local Safer Neighbourhoods team.

Today at about 9 in the morning, 29/5/2017, I got a call from this number which showed up as an international one. Since I'm older and have some disabilities, the message they left really worried me. I decided to call back, but then my daughter showed me how to look up the number online first. Turns out, it was a scam, and I'm so glad I did that before calling. Really thankful to my daughter for teaching me to check!

I just got a call on behalf of my elderly parents today; they're both in their seventies. Unfortunately, it wasn't the first instance of them getting this automated message, and I must say, it really unsettled both them and me. I attempted to ring back, but surprise, surprise-no one picked up. This sort of harassment needs to be put to an end; it’s just untenable to frighten vulnerable individuals in their own homes like this.

They’ve just given me another bell! I had a bit of a back-and-forth with a chap who introduced himself as Peter Willis, sounding very much like he hailed from Nigeria. As I probed him with some questions, it was clear he wasn’t too keen on that. The vibe quickly shifted to him getting quite hostile, especially when I kept calling him out as a fibber and chuckling at his attempts. In the end, he just hung up in a huff. I received a rather suspicious call from a gentleman of Asian descent, who claimed to represent HMRC. His speech was laden with what sounded like convincing jargon, but everything felt off-kilter. Same pattern for me, a recorded voice claiming HMRC are taking legal action and asking me to hit 1 to talk to someone about my case. This call popped up twice in the afternoons recently. I just didn’t pick up. It’s clearly a scam cause no proper tax office would call like that. When I tried 1471 to get the last caller’s number, no option to call back was given which seemed strange. Last week, while I was away on holiday, I got four voicemail messages all days running from Tuesday through to Friday. The first and last calls came from a private number, and the other two were from 02037692587. Like many others have said, the caller pretended to be from HMRC, saying there was going to be a lawsuit against me and urged me to press 1 to talk to my case officer. I bet if you press that button, it hooks you up to a premium rate line - that’s likely how these scammers cash in. Proper worrying how risky this lot are.

Received a rather alarming call regarding a supposed legal issue. I rang them back and had a chat with a chap who introduced himself as Peter William. He offered me a chance to resolve things without heading to court. Naturally, I told him to go ahead and send over the arrest warrant. Clearly, this is just a dodgy scheme.

I’ve been inundated with the same automated calls that others have mentioned. I've reported this to HMRC, hoping to get clarity from the 'genuine HMRC and Customs'. They advised me that unless one receives a correspondence from them containing one's National Insurance number and date of birth, it’s crucial to verify the authenticity of any communication by contacting them directly through a number they provide. Alternatively, if you’ve got your HMRC username and password, you might want to check any messages left for you online. So, just to be clear, the number 02037692587 is fraudulent. Steer clear of pressing any buttons! If you do end up speaking to someone, always ask, ‘Who are you trying to reach and what information do you have on me?’ Do not share your name or any sensitive details! Cheers, Mr. (not revealing my name as I’m keen to avoid detection by these scammers).

Got two calls from someone saying I owe HMRC money, one on the 29th of April and another the very next day, 30/4/17. Pretty sure they’re trying to scam me.

Some bloke from HMRC called me saying I owed money, but I told him I don’t owe a single penny to anyone. I ended up reporting it to the police, and they’ve taken it seriously and filed a crime report. I made it clear I want whoever’s behind this to be brought to justice. Honestly, it’s terrified me so much, and my 10-year-old kid is so shaken up now they’re afraid to go to bed.

For the past three days, we've received a daily call claiming to be from HMRC, stating they intend to file a lawsuit. It's an automated message that doesn't bother to ask for anyone by name, such as Mr or Mrs Blogg. It’s a bit unsettling, to say the least!

I received identical calls for two consecutive days now. It's baffling why the proper authorities haven't managed to put a stop to these individuals. One can only speculate that they’re attempting to siphon money into a bank account. Surely the banks could step in and take measures against those receiving the funds to halt this nonsense?

I received a rather distressing call claiming there was a legal action pending against me, instructing me to press 1 right away. Given that I've recently lost my husband, this is the last thing I need. It's absolutely unacceptable, and I’ve already endured a couple of these alarming calls. It's got to be halted!

Just had a dodgy phone call earlier today, April 25th. Folks, stay on your guard! Don’t press 1 or any other numbers they might ask for, and for goodness' sake, don’t ring them back!

Beware of fraudulent calls! I received a pre-recorded message claiming that HMRC was taking legal action against me and instructed me to press 9 to connect with my assigned caseworker. Such a scam!

Got a call earlier today, some pre-recorded bit about an HMRC lawsuit telling me to press 1. I just ignored it after a while and ended the call. Anyone know if the anti-fraud team can track where it came from using BT?

I too have just been on the receiving end of an automated phone call (on the 24th of April, 2017) that delivered a rather alarming message about HMRC supposedly launching a lawsuit against me. It prompted me to press one to get in touch, which I did, yet the call simply cut off abruptly. Quite suspicious, if you ask me!

Got a call from someone with a really posh English accent leaving a message that HMRC were about to take legal steps. It scared the life out of my elderly mum, she’s 85! Such a dodgy scammer trick. Honestly, don’t see how they actually cash in on it though - anyone got a clue?
