Phone number ☎️ 02037692587 👆 is reported as a persistent and distressing scam targeting mainly elderly and vulnerable individuals, involving automated calls falsely claiming to be from HMRC. Callers use aggressive tactics and threatening language, alleging outstanding tax debts and impending lawsuits, often urging victims to press a number to speak to a "caseworker." Many report foreign or unclear accents and suspicious caller behaviour, including requests for personal details or payments. Official HMRC communications are always written, never by unsolicited phone calls. Users strongly advise not to engage, press any buttons, or return calls. The scam has caused significant fear, prompting numerous reports to police and fraud authorities. There is a widespread call for action to block these calls and prosecute the perpetrators to protect the public from this harmful fraud.

For about a fortnight, an elderly woman I know kept getting these creepy recorded calls nearly daily. The voice claimed to be from HMRC and told her to press 1 if she wanted to speak to a caseworker. They even used her first name, which was kinda unsettling. The tone was pretty harsh, saying she was under investigation or something like that. Honestly, I'd steer clear of answering if this number rings you up.

I got four automated calls all warning me about court action unless I ring my Care Officer right away! Honestly, for someone like me who’s 70 and fairly sharp, it was pretty frightening. I can only imagine how distressing this must be for frail elderly folks stuck at home.

I got a call from this number today around 2.25pm on the bank holiday and it was the same as what others have mentioned here. At first, I was pretty startled but it took me a good few minutes of calmly pushing back before I realised what was going on. When I mentioned I’d be getting in touch with my local council office, the person on the phone actually threatened to have me arrested if I didn’t pay up within half an hour. That pre-recorded intro they play is really sneaky - it sounds so official it makes you panic right away before the actual caller speaks. I’m honestly worried that people who are more vulnerable might end up getting tricked by this. I’ve passed the details onto our local Safer Neighbourhood team to look into.

Today at about 9 in the morning, 29/5/2017, I got a call from this number which showed up as an international one. Since I'm older and have some disabilities, the message they left really worried me. I decided to call back, but then my daughter showed me how to look up the number online first. Turns out, it was a scam, and I'm so glad I did that before calling. Really thankful to my daughter for teaching me to check!

I received a rather suspicious call from a gentleman of Asian descent, who claimed to represent HMRC. His speech was laden with what sounded like convincing jargon, but everything felt off-kilter. It wasn't long before he tripped over his own words, revealing cracks in his façade. Same pattern for me, a recorded voice claiming HMRC are taking legal action and asking me to hit 1 to talk to someone about my case. This call popped up twice in the afternoons recently. I just didn’t pick up. It’s clearly a scam cause no proper tax office would call like that. When I tried 1471 to get the last caller’s number, no option to call back was given which seemed strange. Like loads of others, I’ve been getting those annoying automated calls as well. Worried, I decided to get in touch with the actual HMRC to make sure it wasn’t legit. They told me if you don’t get a letter from them with your NI number and date of birth, you should be sceptical. Plus, any official letter always includes a phone number so you can check if it’s real. You can also log in online with your HMRC username and password to see if you’ve got any messages. So, the number 02037692587 is definitely a scam. Don’t press any of the buttons if you get a call from them. And if you accidentally do, insist on knowing who they want to talk to and what information they have on you before saying anything. Never give out your name or personal details. - Someone who’d rather stay anonymous ‘cause the scammers might be reading this.

Got two calls from someone saying I owe HMRC money, one on the 29th of April and another the very next day, 30/4/17. Pretty sure they’re trying to scam me.

Some bloke from HMRC called me saying I owed money, but I told him I don’t owe a single penny to anyone. I ended up reporting it to the police, and they’ve taken it seriously and filed a crime report. I made it clear I want whoever’s behind this to be brought to justice. Honestly, it’s terrified me so much, and my 10-year-old kid is so shaken up now they’re afraid to go to bed.

For the past three days, I've been getting daily calls from an automated voice claiming to be HMRC, threatening legal action. They never ask for Mr or Mrs Blogg or anything personal, but it still makes me anxious!

Got the exact same call on back-to-back days. How come the authorities don't shut these people down for good? I'm guessing they're after getting cash wired into some bank account - you'd think the banks could step in and freeze the accounts or something to put an end to it.

I received a call saying there was some lawsuit filed against me and that I had to hit 1 right away. I've just lost my husband, so this is the last thing I need. Had two calls like this already, it really needs to be cracked down on.

Got a dodgy call today, 25th April. Just a heads up to everyone, don’t press any numbers they ask for and for goodness sake, don’t ring them back!

Got a call earlier today, some pre-recorded bit about an HMRC lawsuit telling me to press 1. I just ignored it after a while and ended the call. Anyone know if the anti-fraud team can track where it came from using BT?

Got the exact same voicemail as before on my answering machine. Really happy I looked up the number first, definitely going to just block it.

Just got a call today (24th April 2017) from some robot voice saying HMRC is taking legal action against me. It told me to press one to talk to them, so I did but then the call just ended suddenly. Quite fishy if you ask me.

Got a voicemail telling me I was being prosecuted by HMRC and to press 9 to talk to my case handler. I just hung up straight away and decided to google the number. Thank goodness I did, turns out it was a total scam! Proper nasty scammers out there.

Got a call from someone with a really posh English accent leaving a message that HMRC were about to take legal steps. It scared the life out of my elderly mum, she’s 85! Such a dodgy scammer trick. Honestly, don’t see how they actually cash in on it though - anyone got a clue?
