I've received a similar call myself. Initially, it appears quite credible, what with the familiar voice of the BT representative. However, upon reflection, the phrase 'filing a lawsuit' strikes me as distinctly American, doesn’t it?

I've received three calls from this number, each one claiming that HMRC is initiating legal action against me. I've just ended the call each time without engaging.

Just like many others, this caller claimed to be from HMRC and said there was a legal case against me. She didn’t ask for my bank details, but insisted on my National Insurance number and wanted me to say out loud that I agreed to pay £987 to HMRC. When I asked for a contact number so my accountant could get in touch or if they could confirm they were from HMRC, she got very harsh. She warned that if I ended the call, my bank account would be frozen, my possessions seized, and I’d get a summons. I stopped responding but kept the line open, and eventually she just hung up.

I recently received a rather alarming call from this number, which was automated and claimed to be from HMRC, threatening me with court action unless I pressed 1. When I finally connected with a rather hostile woman who said she was from HMRC, she demanded my national insurance number. I told her I couldn't recall it and requested a contact number for my accountant to ring back. She provided me with what I suspected to be a bogus number and warned me that if I hung up to speak to my accountant or HMRC, they'd immediately freeze my bank account, serve me with a summons, and seize my belongings. The woman insisted I verbally agree to pay £987, but when I refused to do so, her aggressive tone escalated, and I noticed a distinct foreign accent in her voice.
