On the 14th of June around 2:20 in the afternoon, I got a call from someone claiming to be from HMRC. He said I was accused of three fraud charges, that my bank would be locked, all my assets frozen, and the police would arrive within half an hour to arrest me. Honestly, I was terrified. The caller was a man who spoke flawless English but had an Indian name and accent. Luckily, as soon as my husband grabbed the phone from me, he dropped the call.

I got a call from someone threatening to take a CCJ out on me if I don’t settle the debt they claim I owe them. They even wanted my solicitor’s information and kept saying the police would turn up to arrest me within 20 minutes. This has been happening for weeks now and it’s really got me all stressed and upset.

Received a call from 0203 769 0554 earlier today, a woman’s automated voice claimed to be from HMRC. She said either me or my solicitor had to ring them straight away on that number or else I’d suffer serious repercussions. Definitely don’t ring back, block the number on your phone. If anyone has tips on how to report these scams to the authorities, please share. This kind of thing could easily trap someone vulnerable.

Just like with every other one, I tried ringing them back to have a laugh but they've caught on and stopped picking up my usual number. However, if I ring from a different phone, they answer straight away and try to catch me again. I've been going round in circles all morning redialling. Something I noticed - when one of my lines is ringing, the other line shows busy, so looks like they only use one phone line. So when I’m calling, it means no one else can get through and maybe share any bank info or anything.

The day before I got this call, I actually received an authentic-looking email from HMRC about my self assessment tax return - which is the first time I’ve ever had to sort that out myself. I decided to give them a ring back and said I was David Porters from the HMRC Serious Fraud and Phishing Unit - unsurprisingly, they hung up on me, and not once but twice. I got a call from 02037690554 today, an automated female voice saying she was from HMRC. She mentioned that either me or my solicitor needed to ring them right away about some urgent problem. The number was different from ones I've seen before but the message was exactly the same. I didn’t bother calling back and just blocked it on my phone. Still, it worries me how someone more vulnerable might react if they received a call like that.
