I’m pretty wary of picking up calls from 020 numbers since they seem to be linked to scams. After reading the comments here, I’m glad I trust my instincts. My work number’s online, so I get loads of spam calls. I’ve set up a block on my phone for any number beginning with 020. Whenever I get one, I google the number just to double check if it’s dodgy, and most of the time it is. If you get a call from this number, I’d say just block it like I did!

I’m from the Wirral too, and this morning my work phone rang with this number. I didn’t pick up straight away cos I had a feeling it was one of those scam calls. It’s crazy how these scammers keep going. The government ought to step in, especially since elderly folks must be getting really upset with loads of calls to their home phones. It makes me wonder how they’re getting hold of our details in the first place. There’s definitely some people profiting from selling our info.

This number has buzzed me three times so far today. One time I missed it, the next I answered but they dropped the call pretty quick. They said they were calling to help stop nuisance calls - yeah right. I cut them off straight away. Told them to bugger off. It’s beyond me why UK landline numbers get hijacked for these dodgy overseas calls. When you try to report it, nothing happens, and the TPS couldn’t care less either. Proper annoying!

Been getting calls like this couple times over the past 48 hours. I answer and after a brief silence, some bloke with an Indian accent comes on. Says he's from the National Call Blocking Service or something similar, then asks if I’m Mr X at my address, which is right. Next thing, he goes on about needing payment on my card and reads out a credit card number. When I call him out on it, he just ends the call. Totally feels like a scam to me.

Someone with an Asian accent called asking if I was the phone’s owner. They said they were new to using ex-directory numbers and even with call blocking, their calls are still getting through. When I asked who they were, they bluntly told me the name started with an “f” and finished with “ff”.

Today, I received a phone call from a chap with a thick Asian accent on what appeared to be a London landline. He was quite insistent about speaking to the business owner. When I informed him that this is a residential property, he bizarrely began to promote some sort of discounts on landline services. It all felt rather dodgy, as if he was trying to pull a fast one. Got a call from an Asian lady who somehow knew my name. She said she was from Service 2 Web, the company handling our phone line.
