Tesco Credit Cards apparently use this number to confirm transactions. I won’t lie, it does sound a bit scammy at first, especially since the code takes ages to arrive and the robotic voice sounds so dodgy, just like the ones scammers use. I have had to go through this verification process myself and it’s definitely legit. Seriously, Tesco, you need to ditch that awful voice - it really doesn’t help your image at all. Honestly, that voice rates a solid 10/10 on the cringe scale!

Do not share any details about this number. I got a call from someone claiming to be from TSB. They said they already had my bank account info, stuff that only the bank should know - but that’s not correct. They send you fake verification codes and say they’re checking your account with small test transactions, but that’s the trick. On 23/2/23, I got a call from a woman claiming to be from bank security. She was asking about payments on our Amazon account, which we don’t even have. Got five calls all in under 30 minutes this morning from about 8:50am. When I picked up and said ‘Hello’, it triggered some recorded message telling me to use a code to get into my TSB account (which I don't have) for a big discount. I’m awaiting a Tesco grocery delivery at my apartment today, so I suspect that this automated call might have been from them. It's rather puzzling that no message was left to inform me about the delivery time when I answered the phone. The line just disconnected after a mere five seconds!

It turns out that the call came from Tesco. I got a ring from this number earlier today, Thursday 15th July 2021, at precisely 8.22 in the morning. Since it wasn’t a number I recognised, I chose not to answer it. After noticing various comments suggesting it was related to Tesco, I decided to reach out to their Customer Service team for clarification. Here's what they told me: "It was indeed us calling, as we send a voice message regarding delivery slot times to landlines and a text for mobile numbers. This is to inform customers with a 4-hour delivery slot about their estimated arrival time. If you prefer receiving a text, you can simply provide a mobile number instead of a landline." Now for my take on the matter: For those of you who noted silence when answering, it could be that you need to hang on a bit longer than you might expect before the ‘voice-reach’ message kicks in. I experienced this myself as it was my first time booking a 4-hour delivery slot, so I wasn’t aware of what delay, if any, might occur. Also, whilst both Tesco Groceries and the ‘Tesco non-food range’ (formerly Tesco Direct) utilise the same login credentials, bear in mind that Tesco Banking stands completely apart - it's highly recommended to choose a distinct password for your banking activities.
