About a fortnight ago, this number rang me claiming to be James from some HR Advisor firm, asking to speak to our MD. I just assumed it was another cold call and ended the call quickly. Well, they rang back today and when I told them we weren’t interested, the caller insisted that James is definitely with the company and that he HAS to speak to our MD. I declined again, and he got quite irate before hanging up abruptly. It sounded like a call centre bloke with a noticeable accent. I checked and couldn’t find any business called HR Advisor in London either. Definitely dodgy.

The person on the phone asked to speak with a specific staff member and when questioned about the reason, mentioned "Health and Safety" but didn’t provide any company info or extra details. We explained that we manage H&S in-house (guessing she was from a consultancy) but she kept insisting she needed to talk to someone with authority. When we offered to note her number and call her back, she wouldn’t share any contact details or an email. After we said we wanted to look up her company online to verify, she simply said "alright" and hung up.

This number has been ringing me nonstop, easily half a dozen times daily for the past few weeks. After looking it up, I found out it’s linked to a business called Bleep Play, which looks like a dodgy scam that's been around since about 2016. They apparently sneak people into paying a £4.50 weekly subscription for some sort of text message service. I’m clueless about how they got my phone number, especially since I’m on a PAYG plan with a goody bag that includes call minutes and texts, and you need credit to sign up for subscriptions anyway. Seriously, watch out for this one! Caller ID: 0203 750 9899.
