I don’t even own a washing machine, so I was pretty sure this call about washing machine insurance was a scam. I played along and chatted with a really nice lady for about 4 minutes before she asked for my sort code. When I gave her 36 24 36, she said that was suspicious and just ended the call. I reckon she had no clue about what was really happening.

Honestly, just ignore unknown calls, it’s usually one of those washing machine scams. I can’t figure out how these scam people even manage to sleep soundly!

I got a call saying my washing machine insurance had lapsed, but when I told the caller it hadn’t, he just kept going on like it had. I wasn’t very polite when I told him to take his insurance and shove it where the sun doesn’t shine and go bother someone else. Then he called again and left a message on my answerphone saying he was cancelling my insurance. He also tried saying he was from British Gas, which is rubbish since I don’t have any insurance at all! Blocked the number and reported the whole thing.

Our phone is set to pick up calls from numbers we don’t have saved, so we just listened while the person talked. You could tell straight away it was some call centre by all the background noise. As soon as they realised no one was going to respond, they hung up quickly.
