I received a rather brusque call informing me that my broadband charges would be increasing by £45 come October. The chap on the line then suggested he could offer me a more favourable deal but began probing for my personal information. At that point, I decided to hang up.

I received a call on my mobile that claimed to be from BT, suggesting they could help lower my bills. When I mentioned I would return their call, they pressed me on why I wouldn’t chat with them then and there. To me, it’s clearly a dubious call. For starters, I believed all BT numbers began with 0800. Plus, considering BT's recent trend of hiking prices, it seems unlikely they’d actually be interested in reducing anyone’s bills-especially when folks are locked into contracts. My mobile contract isn’t with them anymore, but I still have a landline with BT, so why didn’t they ring me there? To top it off, this is the second unsolicited call I’ve had on my mobile today; I already reported the first one to 7726 and blocked it, and I’ll do the same for this one as well.
