Just got a call at 2:59pm from a number starting 0203, obviously a scammer. How on earth do they have all these phone numbers to ring? The lady with an Asian accent asked if I was Mr or Mrs ####### at ########. I asked who was calling, and she said "telephone barring service." When she asked if I was Mrs ####### from that address, I said no. As I was about to tell her I knew she was a scammer, she immediately hung up. Bit of a disappointment, I was really up for giving her a good telling off!

Then, he rang straight back and told me not to hang up. I just told him to leave me alone and not bother calling again.

I received a call on Monday, 5th October 2020, at noon BST. The line was rather crackly and came from someone named "David," who had a notably thick Indian or Pakistani accent. He was seeking the owner of the line I was on. When I asked him about his purpose, he claimed to be representing the “Call Blocker Department,” telling me that they would ensure I no longer received nuisance marketing calls. However, when I mentioned there would be a call back from me, he abruptly hung up, leaving me rather puzzled and a bit uneasy. It’s worth noting that I had previously reached out to the TPS/BMA with a request to halt any unwanted calls and unsolicited mail. This has made me quite cautious, especially since "David" never referred to the abbreviation "TPS."

I’ve had this number call me a few times recently but never left a voicemail. Today, the person on the line claimed they were updating the call blocking records and asked me to verify my address. I didn’t give anything away because voices can be faked easily these days. Instead, I told them I’m on the Telephone Preference Service and wasn't interested in any scams. They just said “ah, the TPS” and hung up. Honestly, watch out for calls like these, they seem pretty dodgy.

Number 02037256798 rang my husband the other day. It was a woman saying she was from BT, offering to upgrade our scam blocking to cover international calls. She sounded pretty convincing, mentioning our existing local scam blocker. After she asked a few questions that my husband replied to, she then went on to ask for the expiry date on his debit card. We hung up straight away. She rang back asking why we’d cut the call, and then kept phoning again but I ignored it. This is a nasty scam, especially for older people who have scam blocking set up - it could easily fool them.

I said no, and when she pressed me on how I pay, I told her that if she doesn’t even know who I am or where I live, she’s daft to expect me to give out any personal info. She just hung up on me.
