When we were sorting through my mum's things after she went into care because of dementia, we found loads of packets of those Souza tablets. It was so clear she’d been tricked into buying them in the early days of her illness. Proper scams, honestly. Those people should be ashamed.

After ignoring the calls for a while, I decided to pick up and deal with this annoying caller. The lady, with an asian accent, claimed it was about some healthcare letter supposedly sent to me but I never got it. I acted like I was really confused and kept asking her to say it again. Eventually, she got irritated and just hung up. Honestly, these callers are all scammers trying to trick us out of our cash.

Got a call earlier from someone claiming to be from the Health Centre. The woman on the phone, sounded Asian, began asking me several questions. When I asked her how she got hold of my name and number, she just hung up on me. Honestly, who’s handing out people’s details from the phone book like that? Really think it’s time this kind of thing was stopped altogether.

I've been getting calls from these people all the time, asking me about my medication and health. What's the point? My doctor won't tell me anything about my husband's condition, so why do they believe they have the right to phone me and quiz me on personal stuff? We’re no mugs!

This number keeps popping up on my phone, usually with someone speaking English not too well but still sounding quite courteous. It’s pretty obvious it’s another one of those health survey calls or something similar. What I do is play along nicely at first, acting interested, then suddenly say, “Oh hang on, I think someone’s at the door, just a sec,” and then quietly put the phone down. Wait until you catch the cut-off tone. This way, they’re the ones wasting minutes and cash, not you.

I got a ring from this number claiming it was some sort of health survey. They started asking if anyone living here suffered from arthritis or any similar health issues. I told them no, and it quickly seemed like they were just trying to push some products. Ended up hanging up pretty sharpish.

Yesterday my wife got a call from a bloke claiming to be Mr Ray Carter from some health care place in Harrow, Middlesex. He seemed to know all sorts about her health and was trying to sell her some Celumin health tablets, but she’d have to pay for them. She told him she'd check with her doctor first, but he said there was no need. I told my wife to just tell him to get lost, so she did and hung up. Then he called again but she didn’t pick up the phone.

These con artists have tricked my old mum into buying some so-called "health supplements" two times already, but she hates being harsh with people. Now they’re phoning up claiming she owes them more cash. I rang their number and demanded they take her off their list, but they acted like they never contacted her. Got a couple of calls from this number out of the blue. They say they’re not trying to sell anything but it’s clear they are. They kept asking really personal stuff. As an older person, I got a random call from a young Asian lady. I told her I wasn’t interested in buying anything, but she was welcome to give me a ring just to talk. Now she calls me about once a week for a 15-minute natter, no sales pitches at all. Like so many elderly folks, I often feel quite isolated at home with just the telly for company. It means a lot that someone’s willing to call up and have a proper chat. AGEUK offer a ‘Call in Time’ service but it only lasts about 5 minutes! Cheers, Catherine Penny
