I got a ring from this number the other day, someone claiming they were collecting donations for Help for Heroes. I’m based in West Yorkshire.

Today, I got a call from a woman with an accent, saying her name was 'Julie' and she claimed to be ringing from Homes for Heroes. She was asking for donations like clothes and bits and bobs. When I asked how they managed to get my number, she gave me that same spiel about the TPS. Told her my number’s ex-directory and I’m on the TPS list specifically to avoid this kind of call. Honestly, I wouldn’t put an ounce of faith in them if you paid me!

Over the last couple of days, I've picked up three calls, all coming between 11 in the morning and 4 in the afternoon. On the first day, I got the same bloke twice, sounded like he was from China. When I answered the second day, the voice seemed different, like he was trying to disguise himself or something. This time, he said Help for Heroes was collecting clothes and bits and bobs here in West Yorkshire only. I told him I had nothing to donate right now, and he mentioned he’d call back later to check again. I asked how he got my number and got the usual nonsense about TPS. There was always background noise like people chatting, maybe to make it sound like a proper call centre. From what I’ve read around, within just a few days, they seem to have switched from asking for money to unwanted stuff. So far, it’s no big hassle but it smells like some scam just to make a quick buck.

A bloke with an accent called, saying he was with Help for Heroes and asked if I could give some money. When I questioned how he got my number, he got really awkward and claimed it was from the telephone preference service. I just ended the call there.
