I reckon their whole point is just to check if you answer, so they know the number is live. After that, they probably pass it on to dodgier folks who’ll bother you even more.

I reckon these kinds of calls are mostly to check if your phone is switched on. Once they know you picked up, they can pass your details on to dodgy folks for scams and junk calls. Best just to let it ring out, really.

Got a call from some place called Carphone Warehouse, they were trying to push me a new handset. Started off by asking what phone I’ve got now, who my provider is, and how much I’m paying each month. Didn’t hang around, just ended the call and blocked them straight away.
