Received an unwelcome call earlier today, which sounded remarkably automated with a pre-recorded spiel claiming there was a criminal case filed against me. Instinctively, I recognised it as a scam and promptly ended the call. Having spent years working in a law firm, I’m acutely aware that if there were any truth to such allegations, the authorities would have shown up at my door by now. At 71, I've managed to stay alert to these deceitful tactics, but my heart goes out to the many elderly and vulnerable individuals out there who might fall prey to such frightful threats, potentially leading them to comply without realising they’re being duped.
