Got an HMRC scam call today. Just for a laugh, I phoned back to see what nonsense they’d come up with. They claimed I owed nearly £5,000 - £4998.75 to be exact - but said I didn’t have to pay it immediately. Instead, they kept threatening me with court and arrest. The way they spoke was really aggressive and intimidating. What’s strange is, I’d actually rung the real HMRC earlier this morning, and within hours this dodgy call came through. Makes me wonder if scammers can somehow spot who’s been contacting HMRC. I’ve already reported it to Action Fraud.
