Had almost the same thing happen to me recently. A couple of days back, got a call asking about my Hotpoint washing machine, and I said straight away I wasn't interested in any offers. Then today, another call came through about my washing machine’s 3 year warranty running out. I told the person again I wasn’t interested, but then they said they’d already renewed the policy and taken the money from my bank account, which they apparently have on file! Totally not what I agreed to.

I wasn’t too sure what to say, so I muttered something like "erm, yes" and the person just ended the call straight away. Then today, a young woman rang, offering to guide me through extending the warranty, which I guess would have involved handing over my bank info! I told her I thought it was a scam and that I don’t even own a Hotpoint. The main thing here is to never do any deals over the phone unless you’ve dialled out yourself and trust the number you’re calling.

Got a few calls from this number claiming that our Bosch appliance wasn’t covered by warranty any longer. Pretty strange since we bought it only about half a year ago. So, I rang Bosch directly, and they told me they never call customers about warranties, they only send letters if the warranty is about to expire and the product is registered. I also contacted our local dealers and found out they don’t have any digital database of buyers. This has scam written all over it. - LW

Watch out, this one’s definitely a scam. They try to get you to sign up for some kind of insurance and then ask for your credit card info. Not worth trusting at all!

So, a couple of days back, I got a call from a woman asking just one question: if I had a Hotpoint or Bosch washing machine. I decided to say Hotpoint, just to see where this was heading. Fast forward to today, and a bloke rings up, quite sure of himself, telling me my Hotpoint warranty had expired. I asked how he knew that, and he claimed the company had sent them the info. Problem is, I don’t even own a Hotpoint washer! I told him straight that either he was making it up or had been fed false info because he only assumed I had a Hotpoint since I told some lady that a couple of days ago. The weird part? He argued back, saying there aren’t any women in their office. I just said, well, whoever is lying - whether it’s you or your bosses - maybe you should rethink working there. He said, ‘they pay me good money, thanks’, and I just hung up. Proper dodgy stuff. His company said they’re Appliance ProTech.

I've had this number ring me for the 30th time now, and today the caller got really rude after I mentioned I’m on the TPS list. He claimed it was a proper company and that they’re allowed to call whenever they want. I asked why they keep ringing even after knowing I don’t have a washing machine, and he got angry. I ended up telling him to piss off. They call me like 2 to 5 times every day, which is awful when you’re already struggling with anxiety!

Few days back, I received a call apparently conducting a 'survey' about the brand of washing machine I have at home. Without realising, I mistakenly said Bosch instead of Miele, which is what I actually own. Now, out of the blue, I’ve been contacted to inform me that the warranty on my Bosch washing machine has run out and I can extend it. Bit odd, right? Also, the number that appeared on my caller ID was 001442036376805, which made me question whether the call was even made from within the UK.

This number called me and the bloke said his name was Toby Nicholls. He was going on about how our Bosch washing machine's 5 year warranty was about to run out. He kept saying Bosch had given us 5 years of cover but the machine wasn’t even six years old. Thing is, the washer is actually way older than that. Bit odd, really.

When I told them straight up I don’t own one and to stop calling me, both callers got pretty hostile.
