i got a call a couple of days ago from someone saying the warranty on my Hotpoint washing machine was up, but i told them i only had a fridge. then today, another call came through about getting a warranty for my fridge, which they called an IG machine or something. funny thing is, they had my name right but messed up my address completely.

Had a call from some bloke who initially got my last name wrong but quickly fixed it. He claimed my candy washing machine warranty had expired, which it actually did a long time ago. Then he offered to upgrade me to a premium warranty, dropping the price from £86 to £50. I told him I was fine and didn’t need it, and then he just hung up on me.

So yesterday, I got a call from a dodgy mobile number, some woman with an Asian accent asking if I owned a Bosch or Hotpoint washing machine. I told her no, and when she asked what brand I had, I made up Beko. Then today, I receive another call saying my Beko warranty is up. When I called her out on it linking to the earlier call, she completely denied any connection. I finally admitted the fib, and she just hung up on me.

i just said hi and they called off. reading through these replies, sounds like it's the same bloke who phoned me last week asking if i own a bosch or hotpoint washing machine. he hung up straight after. blocked him now. total pricks.

I received a rather suspicious call from this number earlier today, with the caller claiming to represent the manufacturer of our washing machine. They stated that our warranty had lapsed today and offered to extend it for around £80 for another three years. When I expressed my doubts and requested further details, the lady-who had a distinctly British accent-queried me about the machine’s age and claimed I could get a discount, making the offer approximately £54. Everything about the conversation raised red flags, so I asked for the name of their company. They responded with "Appliances Served," but a quick Google search revealed no credible information on them. When I mentioned I needed to discuss this with Mrs Mac before proceeding, the caller gave me a freephone number and her name, clearly trying to avoid me calling back the number displayed, which was 0203-637-6538. It certainly has all the hallmarks of a scam, complete with an alias to boot.

Last week i got a call from a woman with an indian accent, said her name was ‘Jean’. I was home and kinda bored so i played along, gave her fake info instead of my real stuff and made her go through her whole script. Today the same number rang, but the person asked for me by the pretend surname i’d given. Weren't in the mood this time tho, just had a chuckle and ended the call. They were asking about a washing machine and a telly or something.

Extended warranty for appliances. When you get an appliance, they often give you that card about extra warranty. If you don’t say yes right away, expect calls once your normal warranty is nearly up, they try to pitch you the extended deal. They probably grabbed your phone number either when you bought it or when you registered the product.

Another thing I do is put the phone on speaker and every time they ask a question, I hand it over to someone else at the house or work to reply. They're so thick it takes them forever to catch on. Honestly, it’s just some good laughs for us - don’t stress too much about it!

Honestly, the best move with these annoying calls is just picking up and staying silent. Then chuck your phone on speaker and leave it alone. Just sit back and let them keep saying "hello? hello? anyone there?" until they give up and hang up. Once the line drops, switch off your phone. It’s pretty satisfying knowing you’re making them waste their time and money instead of bothering other people.

Got a call about some Bosch washing machine, which I definitely don’t have. When I told them that, they just cut me off straight away. Pretty obvious scam if you ask me, but no need to be so rude about it. It’s not like I’m to blame for getting their annoying calls - they’ve just got a poor job to do, that’s all.

Another thing you could do is just chat rubbish with them - challenge yourself to see how long you can keep the conversation going without it going anywhere. Keep track of your ‘record’ and try to beat it next time. Honestly, it does wonders for your karma.

I think Appliance Care’s extended warranty calls are most likely because they got your details from when you registered your new product. Seems like they use that info to try and sell you extra coverage.
