I get these calls quite often. From what I can tell, they usually come from some marketing list and then various companies or agents ring on the back of that. Maybe if you just click a link in an email, info linked to your contacts gets shared, or if you sign up for something else, it opts you in without you realising. If you tell them you're not interested and probably never will be, sometimes they'll say they'll remove you from their list... though you might still get a couple more calls afterwards. I've dealt with similar calls before and managed to sort it out in the end. In this case, I missed the call and looked up the number to check who it was: 02036342645.

Yesterday, I got a call from this number on my phone. The person on the other end wanted to talk to, believe it or not, my cat! Apparently, my cat had been involved in a car crash or something. So, I grabbed my cat and let him meow into the phone. The caller got confused and asked why the cat was making noises. I explained that they’d asked for Shai XXXX, so I handed over the phone to my kitty Shai XXXX. After a bit of stammering, the caller just ended the call.

I just got a call from this number, and the bloke had a Northern English accent. He said he was calling from some Legal Requirement Agency about a supposed accident I had three years ago. Apparently, there’s a cheque owed to me for over £1300 because of the number of seats in my car! He said it was linked to a new EU rule about third-party insurers having to pay up. When I asked for details about the other vehicle involved, he wouldn’t give any, saying it was private information under some data protection clause - like my date of birth and medical stuff! After telling him three times I don’t remember any accident and would check with my husband, he just gave up. Honestly, what were they hoping to achieve with that?

Someone called claiming to be from a company called ICS. They already knew my name and said it was about compensation for a minor car accident I’d had in the past 3 years. Now, I actually was in a small accident just last month, but the bloke on the phone couldn’t tell me the exact date, which made me suspicious straight away. What really made me sure it was a scam was when he just hung up on me. Don’t share any personal info with them. Any real company would know the exact details of your accident - saying it could be any time in the last 3 years is just nonsense.

When you pick up and the call just ends, it’s because it’s an automated dialer that rings a bunch of numbers. If someone answers, it tries to connect you to an agent. If all the agents are tied up, the system just drops the call since there’s nowhere to send it. They often say you’ve been in an accident and could claim compensation. I usually pretend I don’t remember anything and keep asking for more info - it seems to annoy them, and they usually hang up pretty quick after that.

So, I got a call from a man named Mark who spoke with a strong Liverpool accent. He said someone in my home had an accident within the past three years. When I asked him for the address he had, he gave me a place I lived at more than a decade ago. I just hung up and blocked the number right away.

Had a strange call from someone claiming to be from the Motor Insurers' Bureau. They said I might have been involved in a small car accident in the last three years, which is rubbish as I don’t even own a car or drive at all.
