It's daft, really - A) I don't own a computer and B) I don't even have any internet or broadband. Honestly, they should get a real job and stop pestering us with their scams.

We got four calls from this number just yesterday. When my husband picked up and asked them to stop calling, the bloke was really rude and started insulting him. Later when I answered, he yelled at me to shut my f***ing mouth and actually told me to listen. Then today, some "John" called on my work phone, so I just ended the call and blocked the number straight away.

When the phone rang, I picked up but kept quiet for a couple of seconds before saying hello. After a brief silence, the caller finally spoke up, using a heavy Indian accent, “Helloo my name John, I’m calling from Microsoft about your computer.” I quickly interrupted in a louder tone, shouting “GIVE UP” and ended the call, blocking the number straight away. Most of these scams seem to come from numbers starting with 0203. I’d rather pick up myself than let the answerphone take over, so I can suss out their scam and report the details here for others.

Typical PC con artists trying their usual trick of gaining remote control over your laptop through some drawn-out spiel. Honestly, they aren’t very persistent at all - they ditch the attempt way too quickly. Just yesterday, when I told them “if there’s a hacker on my machine, I’m not switching it on,” they bailed straight away. And today? They got bored and hung up because I stayed silent for barely two minutes ‘waiting for my computer to boot’. Seriously, if you’re gonna pull this on folks who don’t know much about tech, you’ve got to stick around longer than that!

He tried to get me to click through loads of screens, but I was just faking it. Eventually he cottoned on that I was actually using a Mac. Then he switched, saying he worked for BT Open Reach, blaming a fault with the internet. I work in IT, so I knew that wasn’t true and asked him about the mix-up. Suddenly, he got all jittery. I got a call from a bloke saying he was with BT Openreach, claiming folks from abroad were messing with my IP address. Funny enough, the same number rang a couple of days back, but that time the guy said he worked for Microsoft. On the 9th of March, 2021, I received an unexpected call from an overseas chap who claimed that my computer had fallen victim to a virus and required immediate attention. Naturally, I expressed my scepticism, which only seemed to provoke him, leading to a rather unpleasant exchange. I decided to end the conversation by hanging up. However, he was quick to ring me back, and I made it quite clear that I wasn’t interested in engaging with a scam artist. In response, he resorted to name-calling. I firmly told him to mind his manners and to leave me alone. After hanging up once more, he attempted to call again. This time, I cheekily redirected him to my decorator, who kindly informed the caller not to bother us any further. It appears that once he realised he was speaking to a gentleman, he thought better of it and didn’t ring again.
