I've received two calls from this number today, once at 10 in the morning and then again at 8 in the evening on the 24th of October, 2012.

Hi there! I'd really appreciate any insights you might have regarding this. Lately, I've found myself inundated with calls that resemble survey requests. It's a bit overwhelming, to be honest. Thanks a bunch! Best, Phil

I just received a call from 02036170540. A woman claimed she wasn’t trying to sell me anything, merely wanting to ask a few questions, insisting it would only take a minute. I informed her that the call was "unlawful" since I’ve registered my number to avoid unsolicited marketing calls and am on the telephone preference service. She immediately refuted my claim, stating it wasn’t against the law. I'm unsure if she had a point, but her call certainly wasn’t welcome. I ended the conversation promptly. Notably, she had a “Caribbean” accent, which aligns with another comment I saw regarding this number, noting that the caller originated from British Guiana - quite similar geographically, wouldn’t you say?

Got a phone call from this number around 18:27 on the 18th of February, 2013, with the caller purporting to be from the British Energy Committee, claiming they were located in London. When I pressed for details like their actual address, a proper website (turns out they didn’t have one yet), or even a contact number, they weren’t forthcoming at all. The chap eventually confessed he was actually in British Guiana! Oddly enough, he knew my wife's name...

Received a call earlier today where the caller asked for the homeowner by their name. They were adamant that it wasn’t a sales pitch but rather some sort of 'survey'. When I requested them to take me off their contact list, they went completely quiet. I strongly advise against sharing any personal details with them!

I recently received a call from the number 0203 617 0540, and the person on the other end claimed they weren't trying to sell anything, merely conducting a survey. I was reluctant to share any personal details, as I've dealt with this kind of tactic before - they often hand your info over to marketing firms, leading to a torrent of nuisance calls. The caller introduced himself as William, but when I mentioned I'm registered with the Telephone Preference Service, he cut me off mid-sentence! Cheers for that, William. Rest assured, I’ll know how to handle it if they ring again. I fully intend to report this to Ofcom.

I received a call from this number at 9 o'clock this evening. A tad late for a Saturday night, wouldn’t you say? I opted not to pick up since I didn’t recognise it. I've been registered with the Telephone Preference Service for ages, yet I’m still bombarded with unsolicited calls, even at ridiculous hours like 11pm! It’s utterly relentless!

I keep getting calls from this number almost daily. Usually, it'll ring once, but often I get two or three calls from them in a single day. Since I have caller ID, I don’t pick up, but honestly, it’s quite frustrating.

We’re signed up to the TPS but it honestly doesn’t seem to stop this number from ringing us up. Got two calls today from them and didn’t even leave a voicemail. Had a few others call earlier this week as well. Quite annoying really.

Got a call from a woman claiming to be from HSC House Savings, said she needed to speak with Mr or Mrs Evans. I politely said it was Mrs Evans (I try to be nice to cold callers since they're just earning a living and often get treated badly). Then she asked for my husband's full name, but I told her I wouldn’t give it until she explained why she was ringing. She asked again, I repeated myself, and then she just insulted me, calling me a retard and told me to have a nice day. Proper rude behaviour!

i just got a call from a woman in the US who started threatening me, saying “god will come and choke and kill you” just because i wouldn’t say who i was! i told her i found her “god damn” remark offensive when she asked why i was being so rude. i wasn’t rude, just not answering her questions. then she kept badgering me about my religion, and when i still didn’t tell her, she dropped that awful threat. honestly, these callers need to be stopped - they have zero idea who they’re messing with or how their words can really hurt vulnerable people. i’m a foster carer, and any of the kids i look after might’ve been on the other end of that call - they’d have kept quiet too. why isn’t anyone doing something about this? it’s just not on!

Got a call this evening at about 8.15pm from 02036170540, and the lady on the phone was really rude, sounding Indian. When I tried to find out where she had my number from, she just said it was from the company she worked for - apparently from their records? Brilliant logic! I told her nicely to take me off their call list since I’m registered with the TPS. She said she’d do that only after talking to the person she was meant to be contacting. I repeated my request not to be called again, and she just said she’d ring him later. Asked to speak to a manager, but she claimed she was the manager herself - which was clearly a lie. I’ve since blocked the number, but it was such a waste of time and ridiculous cheek. Honestly, the government needs to crack down on this kind of nonsense pronto!

Got a call from someone claiming to be from the energy commission supervisor. I was like, "Is that so?" then they go, "Are you the one who pays the utility bills?" I replied, "What’s that got to do with you?" and they just ended the call. Such time wasters, honestly hope something awful happens to them.

Today at around 5:28pm, this number rang me but there was no one talking, so I ended the call straight away. I then tried to dial 1471 to check the last caller, but strangely there was complete silence on the line because the call hadn’t actually ended from their side. It took about 10 minutes before I finally got a dial tone back and could use my phone like normal again. You can imagine how annoyed I am with whoever was calling. I attempted to report this as a silent call to Ofcom, but their complaints form kept looping back to the first page every time I tried to move forward - properly frustrating!

No idea who keeps ringing me. I really couldn’t care less about whatever they’re trying to push. I've told them to quit calling loads of times, reported them as spam - they call me at least twice daily for the past six months. They’re always after some 'Mr Harper' who isn’t even connected to this number. I’m planning to get the proper company details, name and address included, because I'm thinking of taking legal action for wasting my time and causing loss of earnings. These calls are interrupting a busy work line and stopping me from focusing on actual customer orders.

They’ve called me again, that’s the fourth time in just three days now. I work from home and I’m registered with the TPS, so it’s really getting on my nerves. When I asked them to remove me from their list, the bloke asked for my address and then said someone might visit to verify it. I told him not to bother showing up or I’d have to report them. When is this going to stop? Doesn’t anyone put a stop to this nonsense?

This number rings me almost daily for the past year now... whenever I tell them to stop, they swear at me at least twice, call me a liar loads of times and most of the time, I just hang up. But today was just ridiculous... I answered and some bloke with an Indian accent asked for me, so I asked who he was. He goes, and I’m not joking here, "I've spoken to you before and wanna know if you’re single, you’ve got a sexy voice." Honestly, feels like it’s gone way beyond a joke now. Might have to report this to the police soon.

I was just looking through my call log after writing about a couple of people who keep ringing me today, and surprise, another one popped up. Honestly, why do they keep pestering us? And if you’re signed up with the TPS, how do these calls even get through? If you see this number on your caller ID, best just block it or say nicely you’re not interested and hang up quick.

I’ve been getting calls from this number for ages and usually just ignore them, but tonight at about 7:45pm I answered. The woman on the line asked if I was Mrs ‘Buff’ - which is odd as that’s the name of a builders firm we had linked to our number years ago. She said she only needed half a minute for some kind of energy survey for the British Advisory Board. I told her off for ringing me so late, especially as we’re on the TPS list. Rather than back off, she claimed she was within her rights to call since she wasn’t selling anything. She then went on to complain that I was rude for not wanting to chat and acted as if I was the one being unreasonable! Honestly, she was lucky she didn’t get to speak with Mr Buff himself!

This number rang me earlier today at about 2.01pm. They asked if I was "Mrs Bennett," which I denied, asking who they were instead. The guy on the other end, sounding like he was from India or somewhere, didn’t answer me properly but instead acted like I was lying, asking if there really wasn’t a Mrs Bennett at my number. I firmed up and said no, there isn’t, and that they should take this number off their list and never ring again. This kind of cold-calling about non-existent people happens nearly every afternoon for months now. I’m fed up with calling 1471 and wasting my credit to find out who they are. I decided to do it today because I’d got two calls the day before, and since this number popped up, I thought I’d share it here.

Tonight, on 27 September 3013, I got a call from this number around 8.43 pm. Even though we've got a call blocker, this caller seemed to try and get past it. Hopefully they understood the message and won’t bother again.

Got a call on my landline around 6:50pm today from a woman who sounded like she was from the Eastern US. She claimed to be representing the British Advisory Board, said she wasn’t selling anything, just wanted to ask a few questions about energy supply. Couldn’t even get my name right though. We’re ex-directory and on the TPS list. How come these callers are still allowed to hassle people in their own homes? I’ve blocked the number now but honestly, like others have said, we shouldn’t be footing the bill for this nonsense. Even if it’s small sums, it’s the principle. The government really needs to step up and tackle this issue - it’s a nightmare on both mobiles and landlines. Nobody should be annoyed by marketing or surveys unless they’ve given clear permission to that specific company first.

Got yet another call from 02036170540 and honestly, I'm beyond fed up with it. I’m on the TPS list as well, but it’s useless against these so-called ‘internet-based’ calls no matter where they come from. If the regulators or the ISPs actually wanted to put an end to this, I’m sure they’d find a way. But as things stand, no one wants to take the blame, so my privacy just keeps getting invaded.

If workers from phone companies (or any company really) are passing on personal info to outsiders, both those employees and their firms should be held responsible. A big fine might just be what’s needed to stop this irritating problem!

I got a call from this number around 6.45pm, and the person on the line asked for me by name, speaking with an accent that sounded foreign. I just said no and quickly hung up. Curious, I tried 1471 to find out who had called and then looked the number up online. Turns out, it's linked to some kind of energy supply telemarketing. After that, I added the number to my block list. It’s really frustrating that in order to stop these junk calls, I have to shell out for 1471 and also pay for a call blocker app on my phone. The cost isn’t much, but it’s the principle that really annoys me! Why should we have to pay just to avoid these irritating calls?

My number’s been listed as ex-directory for more than 20 years now, ever since I moved in. For safety, outgoing calls from this number are blocked too. I got a call from someone with an Eastern accent asking for a specific person, which is worrying as it shows they’ve got hold of info that shouldn’t be out there. Could it be that staff at the phone company are leaking this stuff? The caller claimed to be from the British Development Board and said he wasn’t trying to sell anything. When I told him my number’s on the TPS list, I just ended the call.

By Anonymous Fri 14.02 I had a call from a bloke with a strong foreign accent, asking about my gas and electricity providers. When I questioned where he found my number, he just kept going without answering, and the second time I asked, he hung up. Considering I’m ex-directory and registered with the TPS, it’s shocking they still get through. I’ve now blocked his number on my landline, so fingers crossed they won’t ring back.

Got a call from a woman with an accent earlier, she wanted to speak to me. I told her I wasn't here. She said she’d ring again, but I told her not to bother. Then she went, "Oh I will, goodbye." So I'm definitely gonna keep an eye out for that number.

For the last few weeks, I've ignored loads of calls from these lot. Today, I finally picked up and a woman with a foreign accent asked if my house had gas, saying it’d only be a quick 25 seconds. Today at about 12:28, I got a call from a woman who said her name was Keisha, claiming to represent a firm called British Development Board. I had to ask her several times before she finally got the company name right - sounded like something made up. She said they weren’t trying to sell anything but wanted me to take part in a survey. When I asked how they got hold of my ex-directory number, she told me it came from an online survey. I was like, "Why would I put my ex-directory number online?" I also told her I’m registered on the TPS “Do Not Call” list and warned her I’d be reporting them, mentioning the potential £20,000 fine. When she asked what to do, I told her to have my number removed from their database. To be fair, she was quite polite, which can’t always be said about these calls, but I’m well and truly fed up with rubbish like this and will definitely be reporting them.

Got a ring from a lady with an Eastern accent, called herself Elizabeth, said she wasn’t selling anything. I asked which firm she was from and she mentioned something like Environmental something, then asked if I had gas. Not sure if she meant like cooking gas or something personal. I didn’t answer but asked her to explain more about the company. She just repeated the name and then sounded a bit annoyed, asked again if I had gas. I said hold on while I googled them and then she just cut me off. What was that about? I was actually up for a good chat... about gas, of all things.

This number has been ringing me quite a bit recently, especially over the past few weeks. I’ve lodged a complaint with the TPS (Telephone Preference Service), hoping it might help, but these callers often pop up again using different numbers, mostly from overseas call centres. They clearly don’t care about the TPS rules or keeping your data safe. It’s a shame there are so many dodgy folk doing this. When I called the number back, they answered as "consumer saving evaluation". Honestly, marketing calls should only be allowed if you *choose* to get them, not the other way round where you have to opt out. Too many people are messing about with the system these days.

Got a call today, 14th August, a Saturday. A lady on the phone who actually knew my name, said she wasn’t trying to sell anything but just wanted to ask 4 or 5 questions. When I asked her which company she worked for, she gave a really fast reply with a strong accent I couldn’t really catch. Then I asked where she found my landline number, and she just hung up straight away. We're definitely on the TPS list.

Got a call from them again today, second time this week actually. They kept asking for a so-and-so Smith or another Smith, which obviously isn't anyone who lives here. I told her straight up neither of those people are at this number. The line was pretty scratchy and I could hear kids messing about in the background, so it was hard to catch everything she said after that. Sounded like she was trying to trick me into replying something. I just told her if they’re asking for someone who ain’t here, they must have the wrong number. She said sorry and ended the call. This sort of thing keeps happening, first they ask for someone then act like everything’s fine. Why don’t the TPS or BT step in and sort out these annoying companies?

Got a call around 2.45pm today about central heating and then switched to utility providers. They said they were doing some research on savings near me, but it wasn't a proper survey at all! Total rubbish, and they managed to get past my block list by showing their number. These foreign call centres are becoming way cleverer these days.

Got a call just after 8:45pm from some lot asking if my place has central heating. When I asked where they grabbed my number from, the bloke said something like The British Development Company. I'm registered with TPS but it didn't seem to bother them one bit. Gave them a bit of stick, then they dropped the call. Funny how they actually show their number instead of hiding it. I keep getting calls from this survey firm day after day, and I have no idea how they found my number since I'm on the TPS register. It’s been happening for a couple of weeks now. Every single time I tell them to take me off their contact list, they just fib, claiming it’s their first time ringing me. When I try to get through to a manager or even ask who exactly they are, they just hang up on me. Honestly, it feels quite harassing and pretty unfair.

This number keeps ringing me about central heating, like seriously, three calls a day for more than a week now. Got a ring from this number just after 3:20pm today (22/7/13). A woman who said her name was 'Ashleigh' answered, but it sounded like she’d just rushed to grab the phone because there was a bit of a pause before she spoke. She started asking my missus about central heating. When my wife put her on speaker and asked if she was with British Gas, the woman quickly said ‘no’ and then just hung up before my wife could ask any more.
