It's really disappointing how some folks just mess about with no real purpose! They didn’t even attempt to pitch any product or service to me...

I’ve found the TPS pretty useless in practice, but I gave it a go with an answerphone message mentioning them to block all incoming calls. Surprisingly, the number of cold calls dropped by about 80-90%. Most telemarketers, annoying as they are, seem to respect the message and hang up straight away. Unfortunately, there’s this one idiot from that number who instead decided to leave nasty and abusive voicemails regularly. It didn’t feel like just another marketing call, so I reported it to the police. Their only advice was to stop using the TPS line on the answerphone because supposedly it “encourages” them! Well, cheers TPS - you did sort out most of it. As for the Met, well, they’ve clearly just given up on dealing with the last 10%. Frustrating!

They say people have the right to tell you about products and services you might like, but honestly, these callers are pushy pests and just won’t quit ringing. I’m all for folks earning an honest living, but I’ve every right to say “No thanks! I don’t want what you’re selling, and stop pressuring me to listen!” Just like you can bin unwanted leaflets without much fuss, having your phone invaded is a different story. Especially for older people, these calls can feel invasive and make them uncomfortable with all the personal questions. Frankly, the government ought to step up and do something about this nuisance. Maybe get in touch with your MP and ask them to tackle this madness. Until then, don’t feel bad about being blunt or even hanging up - personally, I just end the call straight away. We’ll get the upper hand on these annoyances in the end, I’m sure of it!
