I rang back and ended up speaking to someone called "Michelle" who sounded really rough. I asked again if she was part of a scam and she got proper angry. I could hear her smoking in the background. Then I challenged her to give me the name of the CEO of Vanquis or the parent company, and she had absolutely no idea. It's definitely a scam, and a bloody clever one at that. These lot come across as so convincing but are total fakes!

This 020 3538 2602 number aint Vanquish Bank, it's a scam. Vanquish Bank is actually in Bradford, West Yorkshire, not London and their phone number starts with 0191. I just looked up Vanquish headquarters on Google and it showed the main office in Bradford West Yorkshire, where all the accounts are handled, nowhere else. So yeah, that 020 3538 2602 is a con call, don’t pick up and just block like I did.

Just like with any bank or building society numbers, scammers have started cloning them to trick even the most cautious people into sharing info. Like any business number, there’s no way to be totally sure it’s safe. If your bank calls, listen carefully to what they need, hang up, wait until the line is clear, then ring your bank back using the number on the back of your card. Don’t leave it too long though, because sometimes there could be a serious problem that needs sorting fast. It’s common sense really. Stay careful everyone.

I’m proper fed up with these calls. I’ve been up all night, feeling awful, and then got a ring this morning and another at 2pm claiming to be my son’s bank. He doesn’t live with me and works nights, so I had to wake him up. They said it could be his account hacked or something. When we checked with the bank, they said they never rang and the number they gave was actually Vanquis, but my son doesn’t even have an account there. Since it was Saturday, I thought maybe it was something serious for a bank to be calling on the weekend.

I've just lodged a complaint against Vanquis with the financial ombudsman. I strongly encourage others to do the same. If anyone has alternative suggestions on how to tackle this issue, please do share. I'm utterly fed up. I've made my payment and don't owe anything until the end of this month. Yesterday, I had a long and distressing chat with them about how their incessant 'courtesy' calls are significantly impacting my mental health and job. I need my phone available for emergencies! I’ve been getting calls from loads of different numbers, which I found out are linked to Vanquis locations like Bolton, Leeds, and Swindon. They keep asking for someone I’ve never heard of, and the people on the other end, whether bloke or bird, seem completely clueless. One kept repeating, “Can I speak to ******?” like it was a scene out of some daft Simpsons episode or that annoying “Are We There Yet” joke, and totally ignored what I was trying to explain to a polite Asian chap. I told them clearly that I don’t know anyone by that name, and I’ve never had a Vanquis account or credit card, so I don’t owe a penny. If you’ve got a smart phone, I’d recommend blocking these numbers as soon as you can by googling “Who Is” plus the number with the area code to check. Don’t bother calling them back though - many of these numbers are probably on an automated system, and there’s a risk you could be charged premium rates.
