I got a call the other day, but it wasn’t from this number directly. The one that rang me first was 01844353008. When I answered, it was one of those automated messages. They gave me the same spiel as others have said on here, only this time they asked me to sign into my computer to “prove” their story. I told them straight up that they were scammers and they just cut the call. Later on, the same number rang again but luckily no one picked up from my side. Bit dodgy if you ask me!

Just like loads of folks here, I got a call saying my name was Kate, sounded like a proper English accent. They claimed there was a hacking thing on a government site linked to my IP and threatened to cut my internet and landline in a day. They said, “hold tight, an agent will be with you shortly,” but I ended the call straight away. If you’re not careful, this could be pretty scary to fall for.

They called saying our IP had been involved in hacking some government site, and warned we'd be in big trouble. They sounded quite aggressive which raised my suspicions, so I ended the call. But then they phoned back three more times, pushing me to call a certain number and keep them on the line while doing it. I kept telling them I was expecting an urgent call and that they should hang up, and after a bit of pausing, they finally did.

Got a call like this too, with a robotic female voice claiming that some hacking from my IP was detected (which is weird, I have a few different ones) and that my phone line would be cut off in a day unless I pressed 1 and rang the given number. I didn’t press anything, but just as I was about to hang up, a bloke with an American accent said thanks for reaching out and that they'd transfer me to an operator. I’ve blocked the number and told the ICO about it.

The caller rushed through their spiel, saying it was just a one-time survey. I had to cut them off to ask where they’d even got my number from. They told me it was from some public UK database. I pointed out that my number shouldn't be there because I’m registered with the TPS, and all I got was a quick “Alright then, goodbye!” Honestly, the summer was awful with these calls, and being on the TPS didn’t stop them.
