Got a recorded call today claiming to be from HMRC with a message like "This is Her Majesty Revenue and Customs, press 1 to speak to an agent." It warned that if I didn’t press 1 or talk to someone, I’d have a warrant out for my arrest. Seemed a bit dodgy to me.

He said Repair and Assure handle Bosch and Hotpoint (plus Zanussi and Indesit apparently) and was offering a 35% discount if I extended my warranty - which came to about £75. But my machine is actually AEG and the warranty end date he mentioned didn’t line up. I said thanks but no thanks and ended the call.

Got a call again today, second time now. The person was very pushy, claiming I had insurance on my washing machine. I told them I was pretty sure I didn’t, but they said it had expired and offered to renew it. They also insisted I’d bought the machine brand new, which isn’t true. They got really persistent and said they’d connect me to their supervisor. That’s when I just ended the call and blocked the number.

WATCH OUT FOR MONEY SCAMS - Got a call from a bloke trying to tell me my Bosh washing machine’s insurance was ending soon. I told him I didn’t have any insurance with them, but he insisted I did and said I could renew it right then and there. But then the bloke admitted the only thing he knew was that the machine was supposedly between one and five years old, which isn’t true. He mentioned they use an auto dialler, and said he’d let his managers know they aren’t blocking numbers from the TPS do-not-call list. Quite fishy if you ask me.
