I put them on my block list right after their initial call, but when I looked at my voicemails, I saw they’d rung a couple more times in the last day. They leave these really brief voicemails, like literally a second long, just so it lands on my phone and I end up having to listen to them and clear them out myself. I’ve never bothered picking up, but it’s a bit frustrating that they do that just to get me to delete their messages.

I tried calling the number back and got a message saying it’s Scottish Power trying to do marketing. They told me to ring 08452862192 if I want to opt out. So I called that, and yep, it was the same Scottish Power opt out automated thing. Apparently it can take anywhere from 2 to 7 days to stop the calls. Fingers crossed I don’t get any more - they were calling me first thing at 8 am, then a couple more times later on. They seem pretty desperate to get through!

08 02 17: Got a call from someone claiming to be Scottish Power trying to pitch a “better deal” on my bills. When I asked how they got my mobile, the caller insisted it was from an online survey I supposedly did. Obviously, I never did any such survey. Pretty clear this was just a telemarketing call centre reading from a script that includes that excuse. I’m guessing that line is there to dodge awkward questions about how they really get your details.

No idea where they got my phone number from, the bloke on the line seemed as puzzled as I am considering I’m not even a customer and the house is actually with ScottishPower. He mentioned they might be linked to ScottishPower, but I’m not totally convinced. I’ve had calls from similar numbers before and from what I’ve checked, the area code is definitely from London. Lots of London businesses have numbers that look the same, so maybe it’s legit. He’s meant to call me back on Monday. If anyone can find out more about this number, I’d really appreciate it. I’m just a bit worried about my number leaking and stuff getting messed with.

So, just figured out this number belongs to Walker Telemarketing calling for Scottish Power. If you’ve never signed up with them, don’t hesitate to block it!! Sounds like someone’s shared your info without asking you first, so unless you want them ringing non stop, better act quick! If you actually are with Scottish Power, you can either get in touch with them or British Gas (since they’re connected) and ask to be taken off their list, or just block the number yourself. My parent works at British Gas and they told me all this, in case anyone was curious.
