I received a rather peculiar call from a lady today who had an unusual accent. She was keen to chat about renewing a warranty for a washing machine. The whole conversation struck me as rather odd, to be honest. It felt like she was completely in the dark about the details, yet she had a pricing figured out already! It definitely raised some red flags for me - smells a bit fishy, if you ask me!

Was looking into insurance for my washing machine and found a company that got my brand right. They offered me a 3-year plan with a 30% discount, but even then it was still £198. From what I found, the company was started by two blokes, one called Mr R Erkine and the other Mr C Jupp, and they registered it at Companies House back in August 2019. But I couldn’t find any filed accounts, which makes me a bit worried this might be some kind of scam.

I got a call from someone saying they were offering a warranty for my washing machine. They did say the right brand, which I bought a couple of years back, but the funny thing is they used my old married name from like seven years ago. Quite odd!

Got a couple of calls from these lot trying to sell washing machine insurance. When I mentioned my machine brand, he guessed Hotpoint - totally off the mark. Tried telling me it wasn’t a scam, but I wasn’t interested and told him nicely to jog on. They’ve rang from various London numbers too. Best thing is just to hang up straight away.
