My partner took a call on his phone from a woman who sounded really official, saying she was calling from Domestic and General. She asked for his debit card details to supposedly renew our washing machine insurance. He ended up giving her the info. Wish I’d answered because I know we pay by monthly direct debit and the cover doesn’t expire until August. Now we’ve got to ring the bank and sort everything out. Such a hassle!

I've stopped picking up calls from numbers starting with 020 since I get around three of these every day. Honestly, I can't recall ever speaking to anyone from that code. Maybe it has something to do with me putting money into some sort of trading or a similar deal at some point.

i ignored the call after reading all these comments. seriously, why doesn’t bt question the people requesting these phone numbers about why they need them? they should either refuse to deal with suspicious requests or demand a huge deposit, which they’d forfeit if enough complaints pile up. would be great to fight the scammers and stop all these annoying calls the easy way.

I mentioned that I’d already spoken to them, and her response was to angrily accuse me of being a “bloody liar” before abruptly hanging up. I'd advise against picking up these calls - it seems all she was after was to pester me into renewing my washing machine cover. No thanks, I’ll sort it out myself!
