First, there’s this quiet pause, then out of nowhere comes a weird beep, kind of like a small stone splashing into a pond. A moment later, silence again, and then the phrase that makes everyone wary - “so, you were involved in a crash that wasn’t your fault, yeah?” Definitely avoid replying “yes” because apparently that can be twisted to mean you’ve agreed to stuff completely unrelated.

Some woman called me out of nowhere asking if I’d had an accident. I asked her how she knew about it, but she just ended the call straight away.
